I wonder if that's the only thing that grew or that possibly shrunk. I grew an inch on my left side after triple orthodesis foot surgery.

Astronauts get a bit taller in space because of the disks of the spinal column: On Earth, the disks are slightly compressed due to gravity. In space, that compression is no longer present causing the disks to expand. The result: the spine lengthens, and the astronaut is taller.

Tell me about it. I could use a year in space for my back.

I remember reading about this when Chris Hadfield got back from his time in space. It is actually really painful on your spine with gravity pushing it back into place (i am sure that is not the right way to describe it). Pretty wild.

Both Hadfield and Kelly were awesome with social media. Very cool to be able to see the day to day of astronauts.

And oh man, I've got a slew of follow-up questions =)

I never even considered gravity's effect on the body...in that sense, of being in space. It sure fucks with my back enough here on earth.

Ah! But does going into outer space expand the mind? :pensive:

I would guess in more than one way. What a trip that had to be, also in more than one way.

Yeah ok, fine, but how much do they charge for peanuts and a soda?

    Uh huh!
