I did it for a quarter.

Its alright. I don't like getting records blindly. I don't care for 2 of the 3 records that were sent (all I really wanted was Four Tet - Pink). on top of that after I joined they started the level where you pay $4 or whatever to join, just to have access to their store where you can buy the releases that have been featured in the past (until they sell out, but it takes a few months).

I guess its cool if you don't care and want something curated and have a couple of hundred to drop (though personally if that was me, I'd join Numero Groups subscription service instead). but for me, I didn't think it was worth it.

Don't do VNYL. they are scam artists.

i've been in vinyl me please since may or june 2014. safe to say i like it and find it worthy of my money. not for everyone, sure, but i don't mind getting an album i might not like- there's certainly a risk there, and not everything has been great. personally i've found the good to far outweigh the bad. the monthy store also has its own exclusives along with other releases. the 'crate' membership tim mentions is relatively new and i expect will become more limited in what you can buy sooner than later - the member feedback to that obviously wasn't overwhelmingly positive. that is one thing about them that has been great- the customer service and responses to feedback have been pretty great, and sounds like the polar opposite of what VNYL has been.

I just signed up for VMP. Got an old blues record that sounds incredible and a sweet art print that ties into the album. Also, a 45 from Vinyl(HBO show) that has a really neat etching on the b-side tossed in as a on extra. The drink recipe is a nice touch and it was a fun thing to do at the end of the day after the kids headed to bed...I could see it becoming a monthly ritual. Just a lot of thought put into the whole package and I think that pretty easy to appreciate.

I signed up this month b/c it's close enough to my wheelhouse, but not something I would probably ever buy. A few of the past albums are real favorites and enough of what I sampled piqued my interest. Seems like a lot of fairly chilled out selection and that stuff has a tendency to grow better than some more abrasive alternative type music.
