Scalpers correct the market.. Good AND bad. The true value of something is what someone is willing to pay for it.. That is a FACT. I've been to more events (sports and concerts) where the "scalpers" are selling tix for WAY WAY less then face value.. I.E. go to a midweek baseball game anywhere in America this summer. No one EVER complains when they walk up to a venue and gets a steal of a deal. This means the artist or team is overcharging and the secondary market is correcting it. It works both ways folks. Again, don't kill me, i'm just trying to provide some level headed perspective.

As an avid user of ticket scalpers I don't have any problem with the open market on tickets. I've purchased many more tickets at below face value than above, mostly to ball games.

But with that being said, the problem lies in the use of ticket bots and online ticketing. Illegal practices have made public on sales of tickets a joke. If it's not a fair game when purchasing tickets than its not really an open market system.

If you are unaware of ticket bots, look them up. They are used for everything from dinner reservations to movie tickets.

totally agree with you on the bots! However. If the bots snatch up all the tickets and the demand is not there, you'll end up with less than face value on the resale. Again, a correction has occurred.

You'd be hard pressed to find anyone thinks $80/ticket (give or take a few bucks) for Pearl Jam is overcharging.
I don't think you will find a scalper who will charge below face for PJ the day of the show because they realize it is already a good deal for a fan.
It is not cool when you eyewitness a scalper on the street looking for/selling 10c tix the day of the concert.

I've never seen tickets go for below face on Stub Hub. Are you talking about buying from the scalpers in front of the venue for below face? Because with those guys you have zero guarantee the tickets are not fake.

Saw it at the London concert.
There was a guy selling 10c tix (don't know how many) but he was there and a few others in line were getting upset, myself included.
It was friggin hot that day too!

I've bought plenty of tickets for well below face value on Stubhub - not for PJ but for many sporting events. Cubs tickets were plentiful from 2011 until the middle of last year for well below face value on Stubhub. Won't happen so much this year, but I can afford to go over face for some games considering how much I have saved. But I also still managed to get playoff tickets last year at face value - a lot of the process is just listening, watching, and learning - as others have mentioned, most venues hold tickets and release them closer to the event - the key is to find out when.

Right for sporting events sure, I can see it happening especially for midweek games or in shitty weather or for teams that aren't doing well. But I mean has anyone ever got for concerts

When The Police reunited I bought 4 tix for Seatle for $250 each on TM. 2 for my wife and I, and 2 for my Dad and girlfriend who were going to fly up from San Diego to visit and go to the show with us. My Dad had a medical situation and couldn't make it. I figured, no prob its The Police i'll be able to get rid of them. I couldn't get a sniff for face value. We ended up selling them to a co-worker of my wife's for half price just to unload them. So clearly they were overpriced for the market.
