I keep seeing postings saying that the boot is great, awesome, etc.

Just to be clear, what is the quality of the recording?

I'm gunshy after buying Chicago 2 featuring the whistling fool.

    Thanks for any feedback.

I wasnt at the show so I'm not gonna be a crazy knights nooocastle! noocastle!! Best concert ever person :)

Lots of chatter, great setlist. Band sounds quite good. I only have the sydney shows of the aussie tour to compare it to so far.

Crowd sounds quite good through the boot, although Sydney 3 would be the best crowd that comes through on the boot from what I have heard so far (in sydney 3 you have 2 verses of better man, Matt and Mike Chants etc)

I'd rate it, But I havent heard the 2006 gorge shows yet.....

No whistling fools or stupid girls :)

  • I wasn't there, but i'm listening now and i'd definitely recommend it. Im up to Crown of Thorns and i'm very impressed. It's almost the end of the tour but Ed sounds great, especially on Footsteps.

He's in a chatty mood too which always makes for an entertaining listen.

    Actually, his official title is:

    "The Whistling Dickhead"
Of course I value your opinion. It's what makes you wrong and me right.
  • I went to all the Sydney shows as well and thought #3 was really fun however i had a sense that Newcastle was a special show.Smallest crowd on the tour and Ed said,"it's more like a party than a concert in here".(Mexican wave that must have gone round 10 times straight...many people laughing). Very refreshing to hear so many rarities and they all sounded great on the boot.
I will definately get Sydney 3 too, sounds like it was a good one to get.Thanx
  • Just wanted to add,
i am glad that the sydney 3 crowd was heard well on the boot.It must have been the most vocal crowd that i witnessed and i think it adds alot to a bootleg when the crowd is going nuts.
    Getting it later today!

That's funny. I think I'm the one who first named him that.

I'm glad the name has stuck. Very appropriate.

This boot sounds the best out of all the legs so far in my opinion. The mix is dead on. As far as the show goes, WOW, I didn't think San Diego could be topped but Newcastle is by far the best show of the tour. Again, that is only my opinion.

The energy of the Newcastle show is staggering! To open the show with "Alive"....and the pace they kept until they slowed it down was terrific. Throw in som Brain of J and a Red Mosquito...

Great show with a lot of deeper songs so cheers to the guy who made the setlist! I wish I could've seen what the hell was going on on that stage because Ed sounded like he was having himself a damned good time!

  • Only listened to the bootleg in my car so far, but today I will finally get the chance to really turn it up on the stereo and see how it sounds.

On what I have heard so far, the quality is a heap better than I was expecting. Crowd probably doesn't come through as loud as it was on the night, but thats nothing important. Probably need to remember it is only a small venue so the crowd isn't huge.

Awesome bootleg for an awesome concert.

I haven't heard either Sydney#3 or Newy boots, but I was at both shows, and I have to agree that the Syd3 crowd did seem louder.
The crowd and atmosphere at Syd3 was much more intense in my opinion, while Newy was more party-like as Ed said.

How good was that weekend. I just remember a party starting on Saturday Afternoon ans finishing on Sunday night. Best 2 nights.

  • This is an amazing boot....and what sounds like an amazing show.

This is only boot I've bought aprt from the Dublin show which I attended and there's no comparison, Newcastle beats Dublins, hands down.

The band sound much tighter, the performance sounds like it has 10 times more energy compared to the same songs being played in Dublin where they sounded sluggish.

Most of the Aussie shows are very thight... It was one hell of a tour.

I did see more shows this time around, but I had an even better time than in 95, 98 and 03. The band were just firing, the crowds often better. The passion and angst of the earlier days was cool, but Pearl Jam 06 is incredible.

Exactly - Newy felt like a fan club show. It was like a smaller party for the hardcore PJ nuts like us, whereas Sydney 3 was pure fun from start to finish : a bigger, Saturday night event for the masses.

I'm not sure if I felt bad for the people up in the stands at Newy who sat down a lot and didn't seem to know a lot of the setlist.. I don't think I did!

The way the band (and the folks around me in the 10c section) were going, I reckon I turned around to check out the crowd just the one time- when Ed was giving props for the petitioners, and looking around trying to spot Andrew and Rob.

Same for me..... at most of the other shows I took the time to check out what the crowd was up to at least 3 or 4 times during the night. But Newy was different, in so many ways!!!

I think this boot is a bit overrated in terms of tightness. I listened last night to the first disc and some songs are just messed up by the band. Red Mosquito and Do The Evolution are pretty much fucked up and Hail Hail, Brain of J and Undone are far from being perfect.

I agree. The crowd doesn't sound as energized as most of the other Australian shows. The set is great but I prefer some of the other Aus shows like Sydney 3 or the Adelaide shows. Still a pretty good bootleg though.
