I've never heard any Metallica boots, but I was wondering is the quailty of their boots better, the same, or worse?

i have listened to lots of both and the pearl jam shows sound way way better. the metallica shows do not sound powerful enough. i dont know what it is, but the metallica shows sound kind of flat, if this makes any sense to you.

I have some Metallica bootlegs (for example 2006 Nova Rock) and they are pretty good.
PJ bootlegs are awesome but this is obvious for all of us.

  • All the official PJ boots(00/03/05/06) sound better than the Metallica boots. I have a few and they sound good if they are played on a great stereo, but anything else they do sound flat. The guitars are usually a little to low in the mix and the vocals sound like crap and are too high in the mix. The drums and bass mixed in with guitars sound really good, but nothing compared to the greatness of PJ boots.
My first PJ show to witness was at Bonnaroo. How is that for lucky?

First of all, great thread! I own a ton of Metallica boots from the 2004 tour, one from the 2006 tour and one from the 2007 tour. The PJ boots are great and the Metallica boots are also great. Are they as good as you would get in a store with an official copy? No they are not but they are awesome anyways. The fact they you can buy any show you want in both MP3 and FLAC formats is awesome. I only wish all bands would do this with their shows.

Pick your favorite Metallica setlist and buy one and judge for yourself. I personally look for the setlist with the most old stuff. I don't like most of the stuff from Load on. Of course that is just my opinion.

  • i own quite a lot of PJ boots and metallica boots, and i while they are both my joint favourite bands ever, i think PJ boots are definitely better quality

Pearl Jam boots all the way.

Compare two festival shows I went to last year: Download and Leeds. The Metallica set @ Download included all of Master of Puppets. It was cool to witness that, but when I got the boot, it sounded a bit lack-luster with to many stop-start moments.

The Leeds Festival boot is probably one of the finest boots you could own.

The first batch of '04 Metallica show's weren't so good. I bought a few from livemetallica.com. One that was a must was the one where Slip Knot's drummer took over for a few songs. There was so much static on the recording .. who ever was mixing it must of been not looking at the board or something. The later show's the '06 & the '07 Sick of the Studio tour is pretty good.

I just have one Metallica boot from a show I went to in Salt Lake and I must say I would rather listen to Neil Diamonds' greatest hits than the shit that Metallica calls a bootleg.

Either Metallica really sucks live, the recording is sub-par, or I have been spoiled by Pearl Jam. Whatever it is, I choose to remember the Metallica concert by not ruining it any more by listening to the boot.

Well, the first batch of '00 Pearl Jam shows wasn't so good, either :)

I have some Metallica shows from 2004, 2006 and 2007. Having listened to this year's shows the most (because I attended two shows), all I have to state is that they are really good and worth purchasing.
