Tell me about Bonaroo

The PJ schedule works out very poorly for me, with the exception of Bonaroo. However, I am not a festival guy. The only Festival I've ever attended was PJ20. But I think Bonaroo will be quite different...right? I think I have two questions:

1. How long are PJ's sets at festivals? I am guessing they play their 75-minute "main" set only. But maybe they get a bit of an encore, as the headliner.

2. Is the whole thing GA? Just a giant lawn? I definitely prefer reserved seats.

Bonus: Does PJ produce boots of shows like this.

Bonnaroo is not your normal festival. Tons of music going on all the time. Don't like one band, walk over to another tent/area.

    1. Well in 2008 they played for a little over 2.5 hours. There is no time limit at Bonnaroo for the headliner. They can really play as long as they want.
    2. All GA. Giant field. THOUSANDS of people.
Bonus: Yes, should have a boot. The 2008 is available in the shop.

    Hot as a M*thafucker.
Camping sites miles away from the main stage.
any drug you could possibly want.
    portapotties that are emptied daily.
no showers unless you pay $15 (this might have changed since 2006)
pretty fun to do Once but I wouldn't do it again without a RV.

Not Bonnaroo-specific, but I saw Pearl Jam at ACL 1 in 2014, and also Big Day Out Melbourne 2014.

    1) At both those shows I got about 2 hours of music. It will be a shorter set then a regular Pearl Jam show, but don't discount them from throwing in some gems. At ACL 1, they did this awesome re-boot of LBC where they started out playing the instrumental part that comes later in the song, it was either the first time they had done it (or at least first time I had heard it) and it was so awesome. You will have to be prepared to be around casual fans who will have no idea Getaway or Indifference are, and will only get fired up for Alive and Jeremy. The band's energy isn't different from a regular show though.

    2) Never seen reserved seating at a festival before.

    3) The festival shows I've been at have had boots released

Bonnaroo is the best US Festival in my opinion, although I have not been to Sasquatch yet. I have been 6 times and was at the last one PJ played. That set was pretty amazing and as someone mentioned earlier, the headliners have no time limit. Think they played like 25-26 songs back in 08 and it was pretty amazing. All GA unless you get VIP which to me is very expensive and not really worth it. It is pretty hot there for sure, but so many bands to see and they have little village area where you can shop or browse all sorts of different stuff. Very clean, unless it rains, very dusty by Sunday if it does not rain. Awesome beer garden, lots of places to get different kinds of food, drinks, beer you name it. Late night shows that stretch into the early morning. No single day tickets are sold at all, everything is a 4 day pass. Happy to answer any other questions you might have, just message me and I'll get back to you asap.

The way it was done in '08 was there was a front of the pit for each Main Stage band. They cleared out the front of the pit after each band. They told us if we wanted to be in the front pit for PJ, the line started at Noon on Saturday. Got in line at noon, was about 20 or so back. Stood there all day with an occasional bathroom or beer break. Missed some of the side stage action, but it was so worth it to be on the rail when PJ hit the stage!
I will not lose my Faith, it's an Inside job today....
  • I would recommend VIP. I did that last time and it was worth every penny.
You will need to have a car and all the camping gear. VIP camping is very close to main stage and you have your own entrance and exit. For the most part you can bring in beers etc as long as you don't advertise it.
Getting close... don't bother. The stage is high like 10ft so you will be looking up their noses.
I recommend just hanging in the middle and enjoying the crowd. The place is hot and dusty, the VIP area has good showers and bathrooms.... worth every penny.
