Smart. Pay $2, and you have 1 in a trillion or whatever odds of winning.

Pay $200, and you have 200 in a trillion or whatever odds of winning. These are the same odds as with $2.

People who spend lots of money on powerball tickets aren't very good at understanding odds.

Ok, so here is my Powerball dilemma! lol...it's my moms birthday tomorrow, so I got her a ticket. My Aunt is coming to visit her and I feel like I should give her at least one draw?

I went in with peeps from work. My boss rubbed our tickets, saying its good luck....I texted him when it hit 8 mil and said go rub them again...lol
Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!

I was at the supermarket earlier and overheard an exchange between two customers in line to buy tickets.

Customer 1: "I wish so many people wouldn't buy tickets when the jackpot gets big. It fucks up my odds of winning."

Customer 2: "No it doesn't. It just increases the chance that you'll have to share it with someone else."

    Customer 1: "Fuck you."

    I bought a ticket.........

One of my co workers was trying to convince us all to go in together at $20 apiece. I told him that didn't increase my odds any more than if I just buy one ticket and then I wouldn't have to share.

I guess I don't understand odds. I bought a $2 ticket from the grocery store (the cashiers had envelopes of pre printed tickets and we're offering to every customer as they paid. Fucking smart.

Then I bought a $10 ticket a little later from another store.

How do I have the same odds of winning as someone who only bought one ticket, if I have six? I mean I don't really care either way, I'm not expecting to win, but I would be happy if I hit $20 in the Powerball or something.

You have better odds of winning after you spent the additional $10. But you still have extremely tiny chance of winning and in the grand scheme of things you helped yourself percentage wise, but you still won't win lol.

I don't even want the whole 800 million. that just sounds like a headache. I'm aiming for:
    3 + Powerball $100 1 in 14,494.11

Here's the whole table since I've bothered to look it up:

Numbers Matched Prize Odds of Winning
    5 + Powerball Jackpot 1 in 292,201,338.00
    5 $1,000,000 1 in 11,688,053.52
    4 + Powerball $50,000 1 in 913,129.18
    4 $100 1 in 36,525.17
    3 + Powerball $100 1 in 14,494.11
    3 $7 1 in 579.76
    2 + Powerball $7 1 in 701.33
    1 + Powerball $4 1 in 91.98
    Powerball only $4 1 in 38.32

Powerball is in all states EXCEPT Nevada, Utah, Mississippi, Alabama, Alaska and Hawaii. And D.C.

No, you have 'no chance' if you don't buy a ticket.

Obviously you have a better chance of getting squished by a falling vending machine than winning the jackpot, but you have a chance.
