Anyone use Tinder?

My friend recommended I use it to find a girlfriend.
I've heard horror stories about it.

My friend used it. He found a nice lady, dated her for about a year and recently moved 80 miles away from where he was living to move in with her.

It may or may not be pretty serious...

Try it out, why not? Don't be surprised if you get a lot of matches who don't message, and watch out for the scammers. Most are obvious but some get creative (becomes obvious enough before too long).
Just be obvious about what you're looking for, since a lot of users just use it for hook ups.
  • Give it a shot. My wife's friend just got engaged to a guy she met on Tinder. A lot of people use it just to hook up, but some aren't looking for that.

Also, where the hell was this in my early 20s when I needed it?!??

Mostly in the winter, but occasionally in the summer when I'm up at the cabin and feel like roasting some weenies for the gang.

    Yeah I don't want hook-ups.
    Scammers? As in fraud types?

Yeah fraud types. Eventually ask you for money or just send you messages out of a script and send you their email after one or two messages to take things offline (technically that's still online, but hey they're the smart ones).
  • If your 20 years old and only looking for sex maybe. Otherwise it's a young person's thing.

about two-three years ago this girl I know got on tinder cuz her cousin suggested it as dating site. she lives under a rock and had never heard of it before. Ended up getting stalked by some nutjob who doesn't like to be told "no". She's got an uncommon name so it wasn't difficult for him to find her on Facebook and then Instagram. Thankfully her apartment isn't in her name or who knows if he could've found where she lives.

Be careful if you're going to use a free dating site.

  • Thanks.
Yeah I am not keen. I see it as a sex trawling thing, but I've heard of people finding real love on there so I don't know.

    LOL!!!! AWESOME!
  • It is odd that society has become so social media driven.
Asking a website if they have used a website to find a human contact.

Sad but true. I am not a fan on using technology to find love. I prefer the old fashioned way.

Social media has actually enhanced our ability to communicate with each other by allowing us to reach out and seek advice from people all over the world, with a wide range of experiences and perspectives. I choose to embrace this and your participation in this forum suggests that you do too...

    Yes that's true.
    It's just a generation thing I guess.
Used to be if you liked a woman you would flirt and ask her out/vice versa.
Now it seems this generation has to do an online interview before even thinking about meeting.
Unless their "tinder" add was racy enough.
  • I've never tried Tinder but am on a couple of online dating sites. So far going nowhere fast

As someone in their early 20s, most of my single friends are on it. With online interactions/friendships/dating/etc being so prevalent nowadays, it's just like everything else--sometimes it works out, sometimes it's just a hook up, sometimes it's a disaster.

The old fashioned way? Pre-arranged marriage where your dad traded an oxen and a weeks worth of carpentry for another man's 8 year old daughters hand in marriage (when she turns 13) for his son.

I meant meeting in real life, like in a bar, out in the city.
