Help stretch me out?

So I listen to a decent variety of music.. but my library is mostly made of well known bands: stp, stones, rhcp, ccr, primus, iron maiden, Neil young, you get the idea. To make matters worse (or better) I have 1600 even pj boots/cds on my phone alone (128gb SD card) so 90% Im just listening to that :p

It would be super awesome if you cool dudes and dudettes could list some bands I may not know of or would easily hear about? And it would be even cooler if you could also throw up an album by said band as well! Im not a shuffle person. I love collecting records but usually end up getting records of bands I know because even 10 bucks is a lot to spend when on a budget and I'm totally going on a limb so such a list would really help!

If such a list already exists please just let me know and I'll delete this, but maybe it could be something fun that others could benefit from as well as myself!

For example, I was in a record store today and the guy was playing a cd I liked and didn't recognize it so I bought it! Was rilo kiley, take offs and landings. So if I was replying to this post I might say:

Check out rilo kiley's album take offs and landings.

Again I have a pretty wide variety of interest so don't be afraid to make a suggestion but let's try to stay away from big name bands?

Thanks all, hope this can be fun!
(Sorry if I similar thread exists :x)

In addition to what folks may listen below, check out this thread....it's a good way to see what your PJ brethren are listening to: http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/174141/ten-albums-presently-floating-your-boat/p1

Also, check out the threads on the forum w/ the Best of 2015 lists....lots of good stuff there too.

I'm listening to Kurt Vile's 'B'lieve I'm Goin Down' as I type....good front to back and has a chill, folksy, stoner vibe to it.

Good luck, lots of music out there waiting on ya!

    Dawes

Great throwback sound to the 70s SoCal folk rock like Jackson Browne, Byrds, CSNY, Fleetwood and Tom Petty.

Ooooo, that current ten album list is quite clever!

For listening to with good speakers and/or headphones - Cotton Teeth by The Snake The Cross The Crown. I've honestly no idea how they didn't 'make it' as it were.

Check out this very unknown band called Restorations. They have a decent amount of music available, but here is a 7 incher you can listen to on their bandcamp - tinyengines.bandcamp.com/album/a-b I've always thought they would be a great opening band for PJ.
1991- Hollywood Palladium, California with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains -RIP Magazine Show Oct. 6th
    1992- Lollapalooza, Irvine, California
    Nothing since then. I suck.
2016- Fenway Park, Boston - Both glorious nights
    2022- Oakland Night 2

Looking at what you already like, here's a few that might work for you (OK, I cheated- the first three are big names, at least to me they are!)

    Three biggies:

The Replacements: "Let it Be" is a good one to start with.

Dinosaur Jr: so many albums! Maybe start with "Farm" and then work back to the early cool stuff. The harder to find "BBC Sessions" is a monster record!

Mission of Burma: It's all great but maybe start with "vs." (Yes, it's called "vs.")

A couple of great early pre-punk bands:

Wire. Check out their 1977 LP, "Pink Flag". Well ahead of their time!

Eater. Their album "Eater, The Album" is an early punk classic!

    Other cool stuff:
Carlton Melton: All instrumental neo-psycheldlia for times when you want to chill in a nice aural space.

The Lynnfield Pioneers. Worth checking out if for nothing else the awesome song "Windblown".

Earthless Meets Heavy Blanket. The two-LP "In a Dutch Haze" has four sides, one song, an epic jam.

Rain Parade. The LP, "Explosions in a Glass Palace" is one fine piece of "velvet underground" work.

Sandy Bull: His "E Pluribus Unum" is east meets west meets north meets south in a pleasure filled blend of his various string instrument talents with minimal percussion touches. First rate!

Kleenex Girl Wonder. The band is one guy, Graham Smith, who does all the instruments, recording, everything. His "Ponyoak" is a nice lengthy delving into melodic smart pop with a solid underpinnings.

For when you really want to reach out there:

Albert Ayler: The short Avante garde LP, "Bells". You'll either run away screaming or, if like me, be transfixed. It's only on side of an LP. The flip side is blank.

Blair 1525: This little know band from England put out a marvelous psychedelic LP called "blair 1523".

Cecil Taylor. Filed under "jazz", almost all of Taylor's solo piano work is awe inspiring and often resembling a raging thunderous storm or something building up to it.
