Need some help organizing. Ideas?

Okay, I had an idea to catalog my preciousesesss and I thought that maybe technology has advanced enough where I could just get a bar code scanner to save my fingers from typing everything? Is this happening or are there other ways to document a collection? Thanks for your time and your ideas

Thanks for the links - Collectionzz is nuts! Any relief from typing though? Trying to avoid some carpal tunnel. Does anybody use a scanner?
