The Hateful Eight

So looking forward to this film. Going to see it Saturday night in glorious 70mm. Heard it's 3 hrs with a 12 min intermission in the middle. Haven't ever been to a movie with an intermission before. Anyone else excited for this?

  • I'm really looking forward to it, though I must admit, the length of the movie is a little scary to me.

Most of his films are about 2 1/2 hours and I barely notice because they are so entertaining. I remember seeing Django and not realizing it was 2:45 long. It only felt like it was a couple hours. I have no doubt this one will be just like that.

  • Oh absolutely, I love Quentin. Django is probably one of the only movies of his I didn't like. Kinda went way overboard. But I am always gonna go see one of his movies.

Saw the leaked Oscar screener a few days ago. It's kind of slow moving for 60-90 minutes but really gets going with the gore after that.

Good on visuals but some of the top was cropped. I could tell when that "property of Weinstein Company" writing was on top of the movie for about one minute.

I really wanted to see this until reading that it's 3+ hours with an intermission. I'll probably get the screener and watch it over the course of a weekend

I d'loaded the screener as well but just found out there is a 70mm screening in Brissie in a few weeks so am going to try and resist the temptation until then....
It's gonna be tuff but I think it'll be worth the wait.

Saw it last night. It was excellent. The first half is very dialogue heavy, as it is for character development. Not boring in the least since it's classic Tarantino dialogue. Set up the second half of the movie very nicely. For what it's worth it didn't really feel like 3 hrs. Maybe because of the intermission halfway through. I thought the intermission broke the movie up perfectly (It has 6 chapters and the intermission comes after chapter 3). Highly recommend it if your on the fence.

yeah i just got home after seeing it, I like it a lot. I thought it was better than Django Unchained. I'd probably rank it somewhere in the middle of his films. Yeah starts off slow but picks up after intermission.

Just saw the 70mm version...makes me miss the old film. I enjoyed it very much.
Definitely a film for Tarantino fans. I did expect one last twist at the end, but it didn't happen.

Not good. Dialogue wasn't that great. Django was a thousand times better. Also the use of the n word in his movies has worked before but now it's a little over the top and seems unnecessary every 5 seconds.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, no intermission when I saw it. It didn't seem long at all, classic Tarentino.

Thought it was a pretty bland story and all the themes/interesting story lines were already covered in Django. Thought all the character development was pretty self-indulgent of Tarantino, and with a good editor it easily could've been a 2 hour movie.

My problem with the movie could have been that it was an 10:45 showing and by 2 AM I was very excited that the movie was finally over, but given it's length, I don't want to see it again to find out.

Visually the movie was great, and the score was perfect too.

I enjoyed it, but I feel it could have been better. Wish they got more into the backstory of the "gang".
