Scott Weiland RIP

Thread title states it. STP were a very prominent band in my formative years.

Wicked Garden is sheer awesomeness.

I knew this was gonna happen if he didn't clean his act up. Grew up listening to STP in junior high and high school. I actually listened to him being a guest DJ on 100.3 FM The Sound in L.A. and he sounded like he didn't want to be there. I could tell he was in his last days and now he went the way of Layne, Winehouse and, his idol, Jim Morrison.JUST.SAY.NO.

    RIP

The saddest part about this was its inevitability. He always had an amazing voice, it's so tragic that he couldn't get his shit together.

    RIP Scott

I stupidly idolized this guy as a kid/teen. Too bad he never cleaned his act up.

Extremely sad. If you follow him the past month or so have been leading towards something being "not right".

  • Very sad but not suprising at all. STP gets lost too much in the great era that was the early 90's. Those first two STP albums were right up there with PJ, Nirvana and everyone else in quality.

    RIP Scott.

  • he seemed to be on the straight and narrow. it's entirely possible he didn't die of an overdose. he may have died of natural causes due to all the damage he did to his body over the years. I wouldn't have been shocked if this happened a few years ago, but I find it shocking now.

Lots of talk about his drug addiction, but none about him being bipolar. "Getting your shit together" is not easy to do when you're bipolar.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It's so damn easy to judge others, especially online.

his wife said he was clean, still smoked cigarettes and drank socially.

STP's music had a bigger impact on me than PJ...just in a different way.

I was pretty bummed out about this. I sort of fell off the wagon when No. 4 came out and I was disappointed in it, but during high school I was a HUGE STP fan. I wore out Purple and Tiny Music and saw them live with Local H shortly before their tour fell apart and Scott went to rehab. But after No. 4 I just stopped paying attention, I'd hear a new song and not particularly like it. I downloaded the last couple of albums with the intention of listening and never did and I bought that Live In Chicago DVD but never watched it. While I still go back and listen to the first 3 albums a lot (as well as Scott's first solo album and Talk Show), I really didn't keep up with what Scott was doing, or the band. I didn't know he was still partying hard, so while I shouldn't have been surprised to hear about his death, it came out of the blue. I was listening to a local sports radio station called The Ticket here in Dallas and they were paying a little tribute to him, because back in '99 he came in the studio with Dean and they did an acoustic set. Which they played and it was amazing. They did an amazing version of Sour Girl, which isn't even a favorite of mine.
