After all these years our dream is becoming true! Pearl Jam are coming to Greece for the first time and we are all counting the days for the greatest live concert ever in our country. Songs such as RVM, Jeremy, Black, Evenflow, Wishlist and many many more must be performed by PJ here so we can enjoy the magic of the best band in the world. We all invite you in Greece to see Pearl Jam together and have the most amazing fun ever! People who listen to PJ since their first steps and younger ones who keep on hearing pure rock at the time that metal is rising here, we all thank Ed and the rest guys of the group for making our dream true...45 days left until 30 September... Greetings from Greece and Salonica... Bye.

looking forward to it...been wanting to go to Greece for lik...most of my life..and it's the Euro leg closer and only 3 days after my birthday...all good!

Haven't heard the best things about Greek's hospitality lately though (from a few people who went in recent years), so I hope that's disproved, at least as far as PJ is concerned. :)

Decided to go to Athens as a "consolation prize" for not getting Dublin tickets (I'm from Ireland), which I've since sorted, but I'm really looking forward to going, especially as it's my first time to Greece.

Must still sort out accommodation - I wanted to get something local to OAKA, but it seems everything is nearly in the centre, and everything reasonably cheap seems to be in one junkie-filled street or another off Omonia square!

Anyhow this reminds me that I must get back to learn a bit more Greek before I go!

Wtf? junkie-filled street? you know this how? seeing how this is your first trip to Athens, just wondering where you get your info

Anyway there's some info to be found on accommodations and other things in this thread http://forums.pearljam.com/showthread.php?t=183299&page=6

Check out a lot of the accommodations around the city centre:

    http://www.tripadvisor.ie/

That site's only does reviews, and most people seem to like a lot of the accommodation, just not the whole Omonia "experience". The Greeks on there even seem to agree to a point. Also check out:

    http://www.athensguide.com/crime.htm

and check out how many people (men) got taken in by this (down the page a bit):
    http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Greece/Prefecture_of_Attica/Athens-426812/Warnings_or_Dangers-Athens-People_to_avoid-BR-1.html

Also more with "advice" on Omonia:
    http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Greece/Prefecture_of_Attica/Athens-426812/Warnings_or_Dangers-Athens-Areas_to_avoid-BR-1.html

But please note that this is only a small bit of what I found on Athens, most of it was really positive and I've no hesitations about going. Just as a single guy, I'll be wary of being invited back to bars by "friendly locals"!

Oh, I see now. I've heard of that bar scam, good thing I'm not a single guy travelling alone, never been pestered. I think something like this may have happened to my brother-in-law years ago, looks like they've stepped it up.
Parents-in-law live in the suburbs (sorta) so I've rarely been downtown too late. Tho a friend of ours took us to a bar around Monastiraki til 4am, it was cool but we were a group of folks.
Maybe you should ask where other jammers are staying so you can buddy up.
Hopefully we'll have a meet up a day or 2 before.
How many days are you staying? just coming for the concert?

Arriving out there on Wednesday evening, and coming back the day after the concert, so I've all day Thursday and Friday free. Might be meeting up on Friday with Negationist for a bit of the touristy stuff, but that's yet to be arranged. Is there anything being arranged for before the gig?
  • We're hoping desertman will be arranging something before the gig. Just keep watching this thread or the other that I gave you links to earlier.

  • Cool Idea for recognizing fellow jammers for meet ups. Check it out;
