To me, it's still the real fastest selling album of all time. Fuck *NSYNC. Any album released during/after the bubblegum pop takeover doesn't count.
I feel the same way, except I remember it being Garth Brooks that initially took out Pearl Jam's record.   I remember it being a bit iffy because they changed how they calculated sales.   I'm still convinced the record would of held if Soundscan hasn't changed the math.
  • I was a freshman in high school.  My grandma drove me to the record store after school to get it on release day.  (Along with Rush's "Counterparts")  There was such a great mystique about it...  The fact that it was released on vinyl...Major labels had for the most part stopped pressing vinyl by like 1990.   There was no music video released.  The album title was not printed anywhere on the (original) album packaging.  The CD was available as a standard jewel case, as well as a limited edition "Eco-Pak"....Still not sure what the story behind this is.

I was a senior in high school in 93. I will never forget going to the record store at 10pm the night before and waiting on line until midnight to get my copy. I think I bought it in every format. I remember listening to the tape on the way home turned up to 11 in the car. Great memories.

I think it's the best collection of songs on any of their albums.  It's not my favorite album, but I could single out any song on Vs. and listen to it over-and-over.
I wish I was a sacrifice, but somehow still lived on.
  • Agree with others that the MTV performance of Animal & RITFW being my favourite live performance of all time by any band, ever.

Then having to wait another 6 weeks to hear the album.

Great memories & an absolute classic album. Pearl Jam at their angriest and best.

That’s a good way to describe it! And makes me wonder what makes a favorite album if it’s not simply the songs?! Kinda weird, isn’t it?!

Happy bday to this monster - released the day before I was born. I've always felt a special kind of bond with this album because of that. One of my all time favs. With that being said, I've always felt that the curation of the track list was a little weird (for eg, Glorified G, while yes it is a banger, feels more like a b-side, same with WMA as it breaks up the flow of the album). But damn the first 5 tracks hit you hard...ripping it as we speak.

This should be Diamond as well. Imagine if they had music videos for some of these songs. Looking at the Spotify play numbers it's not as high as you would think. So it might be awhile for it to even go 8x platinum

Vs. was released exactly 12 years after I was born to the day.  If you can do the math, you can guess how old I am.  I love this record!
