So what's the facination with Bonnaroo about? The past line-ups are not that overly impressive, and easily matched by European festivals (such as Rock Wercther). So what should make them perfer that one festival over a Euro tour?Roskilde '92, Roskilde '00, Rock Werchter '12, Stockholm '12, Copenhagen '12, Berlin '14, Stockholm '14, Oslo '14, London '14, NYC '15, (EV) Kvaerndrup '17, Amsterdam I '18, Berlin '18, London II 18, (EV) Berlin '190

Bonnaroo is one of the few US festivals that >90% of the attendees camp. This is primarily because of the logistics of getting everyone onsite, and because it is far away from major cities. This, combined with the fact that they have been going strong for 14 years now, gives it a different atmosphere than your typical music festival.Funkez said:So what's the facination with Bonnaroo about? While your lineup tastes differ, there are many people that prefer the lineups that Roo has organized over the past 14 years.
If you are asking why "them" = PJ wants to play Roo? I'm sure the $$$ played a big role, and because they enjoyed the last time they played Roo and want to give us that concert again.2003: 7/14 NJ ... 2006: 6/1 NJ, 6/3 NJ ... 2007: 8/5 IL ... 2008: 6/24 NY, 6/25 NY, 8/7 EV NJ ... 2009: 10/27 PA, 10/28 PA, 10/30 PA, 10/31 PA

I get the line-up, it's good but not surpassing the European lineups in my opinion. And the funny thing is that most European festivals are campsite festivals, such as rumored (and much older) Rock Werchter / Pinkpop. Mostly becuase the logistics of getting hordes of drunk europeans home, makes camping preferablePost edited by Funkez onRoskilde '92, Roskilde '00, Rock Werchter '12, Stockholm '12, Copenhagen '12, Berlin '14, Stockholm '14, Oslo '14, London '14, NYC '15, (EV) Kvaerndrup '17, Amsterdam I '18, Berlin '18, London II 18, (EV) Berlin '190 -

I highly doubt that they cancelled whole Euro tour because of Bonnaroo... I mean, who does that - cancel whole tour because of the 1 gig? hahaha
They probably make more money on 1 solo concert than festival gig...2014: Trieste, Italy 06-22

But isn't that more of reverse speculation? in order for them to go for Bonnaroo, Solider Field and Fenway came up as possible "extras"?Weston1283 said:Bonnaroo alone wouldnt have cancelled the Euro Tour, but a combination of Bonnaroo, Soldier Field and Fenway could have.

Festivals pay way more for headliners than they could get with 1-2 of their own shows.halloweenhead95 said:They probably make more money on 1 solo concert than festival gig...

Bonnaroo is definitely one of the most elite, if not the actual most elite, festivals in the US. I would love to travel to some European festivals because i have no perspective of how they compare to the ones I have attended.Funkez said:

Since this is a speculation, I'm not sure how the rumor that a Euro tour was canceled for Roo because I didn't know one was planed until after the Roo date came out...2003: 7/14 NJ ... 2006: 6/1 NJ, 6/3 NJ ... 2007: 8/5 IL ... 2008: 6/24 NY, 6/25 NY, 8/7 EV NJ ... 2009: 10/27 PA, 10/28 PA, 10/30 PA, 10/31 PA

I feel like I'm missing something. I know this is ALL speculation, but why do we think a hypothetical Euro leg is hypothetically cancelled?
Again, all hypothetical: If a spring US/Canada tour is moved to Summer, why wouldn't a Summer Euro tour get bumped to fall or even 2017? Why is cancelling it the only theory that I'm skimming over while barely reading the posts?1998: Barrie 2000: Toronto 2005: Kitchener, London, Hamilton, Toronto 2006: Toronto 1&2, Paris, Milan, Torino, Pistoia 2009: Calgary, Vancouver 2011: Canada 2013: London, Wrigley, Philly 1&2 2014: St. Louis, ACL 1, Detroit 2016: Lexington, Quebec, Ottawa, Toronto 1&2, Fenway 1&2, Wrigley 1&2 2017: EV - Louisville 2018: London 1&2, Milan, Padova, Rome, Prague, Krakow, Berlin, Wrigley 1&2, Fenway 1&2 2020: Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton 2021: London 1&2 2022: Hamilton, Toronto 2023: Chicago 1&2, Noblesville 2024: Seattle 1&2, Noblesville, Wrigley 1&20 -
Because the dates overlap. The leaked European dates started just before Bonnarroo and continued to early July.Gibson said:I feel like I'm missing something. I know this is ALL speculation, but why do we think a hypothetical Euro leg is hypothetically cancelled?

It is entirely likely that they will return to Europe in the spring of 2017, but bumping the European tour to the fall of 2016 seems very unlikely as Euro tours tend to be centered around a series of spring festival dates.

i spoke with someone at msg this last weekend and when i said i was hearing pj may 1,2 she said "oh yeah i heard something about that". she was a regular worker, not neccessarily a huge music fan, so she didnt hear about it through any random music blog regurgitating here. they did, as everyone mentioned, have the plan to play there, its jsut a matter of if that whole leg gets scrapped/adjusted because of bonaroo'98: Camden 1 '00: JB2 '03: MSG1 '04: Boston 1 '05: AC1
