Still think Voter ID laws aren’t meant to keep folks from voting? What other purpose can they possibly serve? Back in 2011, Alabama passed a voter ID law requiring Photo ID. For most Americans, that’s a driver’s license.

Unfortunately for folks living in Alabama’s “Black Belt”– the state’s 15 mostly black counties — those driver’s licenses are about to become a lot harder to get. Why? Because on Thursday, Oct. 1, the state’s shutting down a staggering 31 driver’s license offices, leaving only four open.

The hell is up with that site? Popups, can't select a part of the article I wanted to quote, and seems really biased. Lots of speculation and assumptions.

Sorry, mickey. I'm open to something more objective though.

    Thanks, mickey.

This second article doesn't even touch on the implications in the first. In fact, it seems like it'd make things simpler for the most part due to the cuts. Hell, if I can avoid going to the DMV by doing something online, why wouldn't I?

Not sure how it is in the rest of the country but here, you physically go there initially and then it's all digital/mail/online from there - for at least several years.

They closed the one in my town down ten years ago and now I have to drive 40 minutes to my closest BMV. Renewals are done online. I think you have to go back in person every 16 years. We have voter ID laws and my town is 99.999% white, so I'm thinking this has more to do with budget cuts and the most inefficient BMV's are the first to go.
