They quite clearly have a country ish vibe, behave yourself!

Not that clearly, since I completely disagree. ;)
But I agree that Drifting has that vibe. And LTRP (which is a mishmash of practically every music genre out there, lol).
It's in the guitars! You're just in denial and finding it hard to come to terms with the fact you've been a massive country fan all along :p

 No, seriously. I honestly don't agree, lol!
I'm only busting your chops - what genre would you say those songs are?

I dunno. Alternative I guess? I don't tend to think about music in those terms generally TBH. But I feel I know country when I hear it, only because I hate it so much, lol.... excluding Johnny Cash obviously. ;)
But anyway, I find that music genre is almost as subjective as music taste. Check out how many genres there are supposed to be:

I'm not sure what defines "country" any more. When I think of country music I think of Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb, Patsy Cline, Donna Fargo, Dolly Parton, Ray Price, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash etc. What is called "country" today sounds to me mostly like rock music with southern accents.

  • I think No Code as a whole had a completely different tone - a much more earthy kind of vibe, you could definitely hear the Neil Young influence. Just watching this live version:

sorry, I hate to argue, but there's definitely a country twang to Mike's guitar. That's all I'm really getting at - I know I've seen other people on here say it in the past too, so I'm not completely mad!

Have you listened to The Avett Brothers? One of my very favorite bands. Americana, can dip more country at times, and can definitely dip more rock at times. They're incredible!

  • The Turnpike Troubadours play classic country. This is a great chill song that tells a good story.

You clearly did not grow up in a home where country music was played all the time. Otherwise, you'd know that this is a cover of country singer Don Gibson's catchy hit song. I never quite got used to Neil's slowed down version.

Here's Don performing it as a duet with Johnny Cash's future wife:
