Not that I'm a fan now, but Michael Buble used to do a weekly set on music night in this martini bar in Vancouver every Sunday. $7 cover. The place was always packed - he did a great job. He could play a small room like nobody's business.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata
I saw Blind Melon open for a Canadian band called the Tea Party
Wilco for another Canadian Band Tragically Hip - this more of a festival though, still
Was supposed to see Wu Tang open for RATM, but Wu Tang couldn't get across the border haha. Was Roots Crew instead (Jimmy Fallon's band)
Again at a festival saw the Foo Fighters play on the small stage, short set in 1998, I think Green Day headlined that one, but I was already a big fan of theirs by then, Foo Fighters that is, I've never cared for Green Day.
All I can think of for right now.
when the hell did Blind Melon open for the Tea Party?????
Haha you're right, I googled it and had it backwards. Was a big tea party fan so probably remembered them as being the band I cared about.
Red Hot Chili Peppers opening for Suicidal Tendencies at The Olympic Auditorium in LA in May of '84. The Minutemen and SS Decontrol were also on the bill. Alice In Chains opening for Iggy Pop at The Palladium in Hollywood in 1990 also comes to mind.
Suicidal, minutemen and SSD?!? That is one great hardcore lineup!

either way, still cool that TP opened for Blind Melon. where did this happen?

Edmonton, December 1993.
It was at a relatively small venue, the Edmonton Convention Center.
Not sure if the link to the photo will work, it's not mine...
few others which I remembered. MGMT opening up for Yeasayer in early '08. That was a cool show cause i got the "set list" and one of their people were handing out MGMT shoelaces. Also they played a Led Zeppelin song at the end and Andrew drummed while the drummer sang.
and here's the set list which they threw out into the crowd and i caught it
The other one isn't too big in the US but really huge in the UK.
I saw Kasabian open up for a band called The Music in Feb. '05. I had heard "Clubfoot" on the radio and bought the import cd before the show.

The Modern Savage (f.k.a. The Young Guns) is my cousin's band, and they are big in Alaska. They get to open for most of the bigger bands that grace the land of the midnight sun with their presence. Most recently, they opened for Jane's Addiction.
I've liked everything I've heard by them so far. Now if they would just press their records on vinyl....
I haven't had a chance to see them yet because I imagine it's pretty hard for them to take the leap and tour outside of Alaska -- and I've got too many responsibilities to make it up there for the next, oh, 16 years. Hopefully, they break out at some point. The videos I've seen and the reviews I've read lead me to believe they are an awesome live act. I'd love to see them. Cuz should just bring the whole act to Thanksgiving some year.

Good song and killer, compelling video. One of the better videos I've seen in a while. Does you cuz appear in it?
^^^Yeah, he's the dude that get most of the pink yack on him at the end -- middle longhair fella. His wife is the wanderer who lies down next to the naked log people.
They haven't hit it *big*, but they are significantly bigger and more popular, but I saw BRMC open for the Charlatans at the Double Door in 98 or 99 before their s/t came out. That' was cool.
Wow. BRMC is my 2nd fav band. That must have been pretty sweet to see. I'm guessing you live near San Fran then? My first time seeing them was '04
I was lucky enough to see BRMC at the Saint in Asbury Park, NJ when their self titled had just come out. There were about 30 people in the "crowd". It was one of the most incredible shows I've seen. The "stage" there isn't elevated so they were playing at like eye level. Very unique experience
I saw Muse "headline" at a bar in Philly during college. Probably around 2000-2001. They only had the album Showbiz out and I only knew them because I liked the song Muscle Museum. There were about 50 people in the place. Not really a Muse fan since and showbiz is still the only album I have.
I'm sure this pisses off a muse fan just like if someone was to say they saw Pearl Jam at the wetlands in '91 and aren't big fans now, I'd be jealous and pissed lol.
I saw Stone Temple Pilots open for Butthole Surfers in 1992 right before Plush exploded. Sex type thing was their only single. The band that opened before STP: The Flaming Lips.

wow. I am instantly checking this band out. Love the song. @dankind

The most famous I saw was one that's mildly embarrassing. I saw Nickelback a number of times when they were still a bar band. Friend of mine, the drummer worked in the bike shop he went too. Saw them do odd shows like the Queens in Nanaimo, Vertigo at the University of Victoria (opening for the barstool prophets), Sookefest. I don't mind, I really did like their first album Curb, before they evolved into a more catchy polished music machine.
I saw Foo Fighters play the UBC student rec centre. It held about 1000 people. While Dave Grohl was famous for Nirvana, it didn't result in instant big venues, it took them a while to build it up. This was the beginning of the Color and the Shape tour, and Taylor Hawkins just joined.
Kings of Leon opening for U2.
I guess Greta Van Fleet is starting to enter that list. Saw the play a bar in Toronto about 7 years ago. I think they've evolved to Arena status now.

I'm remembering this one because it was a fun show that lit up the Cap Centre Landover MD. It was 88' Joan Jett & BH returned home to MD (I believe she's from Rockville MD) to this show. Robert's voice was in fine form and better that the first time I saw him in Hampton VA on the Shalen & Stirred Tour. He even went bowling up at Circle Lanes. My friends had no idea who he was, btw that was my bowling alley. He's terrible at bowling though.

I think I was at that same show at the Cap Centre. I remember my friend and I camped out overnight for tickets somewhere on Rockville Pike.

I just remember Axle was a sorta little dude with big hair. They did a cover of AC/DC's Whole Lotta Rosie
I just had a dream rhcp played at my farmers market often. I remember reading joejoejoe saw them in his HS? Or they went to the same high school. Cool anyway.

Wow!!!
The Olympic Auditorium had some amazing shows promoted by Goldenvoice, who would grow into one of the tops promoters in Los Angeles. They are probably most well known for "inventing" the Coachella Festival.

They were a few grades ahead of me, but Anthony, Flea & Hillel Slovak (RIP) all went to my high school (Fairfax in Los Angeles). We had a great crop of musicians who attended the school in the early/mid-80s......Eric from NOFX, Slash from GnR, Tracy Guns from L.A. Guns, Rami Jaffee from The Wallflowers & Foo Fighters, Jack Irons & Alain Johannes.

I saw the Go Go's in a small venue when they were young and a lot more punk than their later selves.
R.E.M., Reckoning Tour, 1983. They were catching on by then but still mainly in the college radio circles.
U2, War Tour 1983. That was probably their first semi-big tour so only semi-counts.
White Zombie opening for Slayer in September 1990
Soundgarden and Faith No More opening for Voivod in January 1990
Alabama Shakes opening for Drive-By Truckers in 2012 (2x)
My Morning Jacket opening for Pearl Jam in 2006 (3x)
