C'mon, Chris! Doesn't the old record store geek guy within want to rib him just a little bit for buying a Billy Idol record?

    :glasses:

And OP, it does sound like you just got a bad/defective pressing of this. If any friends of yours have a decent turntable setup, see if you can try it on their system to confirm. Or maybe your local record shop will spin it for you to check it out.

If it does wind up being a bad record (bad as in defective, not bad as in Billy Idol :grimacing: ), I hope you didn't pay too much.

I'll say this: The vixen in that "Cradle of Love" video ... :flushed:
That's exactly what is was thinking.... one of the hottest chicks ever in a music video.
I really didn't mind listening to Billy Idol with those visuals... oh yeah and she had to turn up the stereo too.

Are you running line in or phono?

    phono
Not that it explains your issue, but I don't think you should be using the phono input if you're also using a pre-amp.

Assuming it's a proper phono input (i.e. with a phone stage in the receiver, as opposed to just a line-level, or "normal", input) it will be applying the RIAA equalization as well as extra amplification. If your turntable has a pre-amp built-in or you're using an additional pre-amp between the turntable and the receiver then you probably don't want to be using the phono input. Just use one of the other auxiliary inputs.
