First, I'll start by saying yes, you're talented.
It's clear you're doing what you're supposed to do.
Since you're looking for honest feedback, you sound a lot like Aerosmith in some songs. I read that you ARE heavily influenced by Steven Tyler, which is cool (I love him), but you may sound TOO much like Aerosmith. Candy Girl almost seems to have borrowed some of their work. Slow Burnout Bright sounds a lot like an Aerosmith song combined with an AIC song, which is pretty interesting, but again, I was more thinking about those artists than I was about you as the artist while listening. Same thing with Seek Forever and Old Town in that they really sound like songs I already know, but I can't quite remember what they are right now. I know them from a lot of play on modern rock stations though; they were big hits, and I think some others might be able to actually name them.
I completely understand that musicians are influenced by other artists, and you fully acknowledge those influences (and you sure do know your influences well - I wrote most of this post before reading that blurb about your influences). But it's my opinion that you might want to keep that in mind when writing, and try to land a little more on your own unique style and sound even while you're channeling the essences of the artists that helped you develop your style.
I hope I'm not being an asshole for saying this. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
Candy Girl is one I wrote to pitch to Aerosmith and is on hold with them. Thanks for the input! Not at all an asshole!PJ_Soul said:First, I'll start by saying yes, you're talented.
