Yeah, little pieces of shit. They should be expelled, not just suspended. I hope that charges are laid.

I find it hard to believe their coaches had no idea those youngsters were going to attack that referee.

Assistant Coach was suspended. Supposedly told the kids to do it.

  • i am sure the coaches told the kids to do it. i worked with high school sports in the early 2000s. some of the younger coaches are idiots. a head coach never tells the players to do things like this, because he is the face of the program and will no doubt take a serious amount of bad press. it is always the position coaches. never the coordinators or head coaches.

Seems like the sports commentators are stunned by it because they've never seen or heard of anything like this in their entire careers as players or as analysts.... Couldn't be that common.

  • i've heard players talk about doing something like that. fortunately the coach heard it too and pulled them out.

these kids should never get to play the game again. they can play touch football at their family reunions.

I cant wait to see what happens with these racial accusations against the ref.
He is already using words like libel and slander.
This is going to get very interesting.

  • Very uncool. Honestly... if the assistant coach told them to do it... it is he that bears much of the responsibility here- not all... but much.

The players need to face consequences and it seems as if they are, but the adult in this equation orchestrated this event if Speedy's post is accurate. And given his level of responsibility, he should face criminal charges for influencing as he did.

Texas football for ya. The players are rockstars. Ref should sue the district and that school. Make em shut the program down for a while.

  • i worked at a high school for 7 years. the head coach had been there 27 years. he had had some bad experiences with a certain official for at least 5 or 6 years before i started. they did not like each other. the coach was an asshole, but he would never allow kids to cheapshot the guy.

i wonder if there was a history between the referee and some of the coaching staff. some of those officials stay in the same conference their entire career. doesn't make it right if there was a history, but it might help to see if there was anything leading up to it over the past several years.

I can tell you this, I am sure their coach taught them the basics of the playbook of " when in doubt always bring race into it to cover yourself" Lock up these players and their coach is what I say. You let them get away w/ this behavior at an early age someone is going to end up dead, and it will probably be an innocent person and not these 2 knuckleheads..

You cannot let them go unpunished. This makes the sport and the program look bad.unaccetable IMO.When I coached and played there was MANY times I had an issue with a ref.But that's part of the game. And when the game was over,I would always go up and shake their hands and joke with them.A lot times they would say I saw this or I saw that. But just as many times they would admit to maybe missing the call. They are Only human. And doing a job.
  • All this over fucking high school sports. Pathetic. Hopefully these kids gets charged with assault.
  • pjhawkspjhawks Posts: 12,529
these kids have to be charged. the evidence is pretty clear what they did. I highly doubt the ref called them racial names but even if he did make racial comments when did being called a named give you permission to assault someone? let's be honest. this was flat out an assault. charge the kids appropriately.

i watch football and enjoy it but the culture of football and football coaches on general is violent at est and evil at worst. i've seen coaches yelling and hitting kids even at younger ages that i can't fathom. they always say it's to toughen kids up but i think it's just abuse.

Simple assault. Not sure why DA hasn't pressed charges. DA needs pressure.

  • What's been interesting to note is the outrage pouring out over these kids' on-field antics.

I too am horrified by them... but I can recount several incidents where young people have done far worse and people have reacted by spitting far less venom.

Kids get emotional in sport. It is up to the coaching staff to develop coping mechanisms so that kids maintain appropriate competitive behaviours. Without direction and in a sport that encourages violence like football... kids are going to do stupid things. With direction- instructed by their coach in this case- kids are rendered mindless.

I doubt these kids would have done what they did without the direction of their coach. That being said... the kids needed to recognize the inherent problem with the task that was assigned to them and refused to carry out the task. The fact that they didn't leaves them in a situation where they need to face assault charges (as Callen has suggested), lose their opportunity to continue playing football on an organized level, and face a suspension from the school.

The coach that set these kids up for failure here is the big problem, folks.

I think the reaction comes from it being such a brash and blatant attack, Thirty. Yes, a lot of kids have done much worse, but they don't usually do such a thing in front of an audience and on film, for the world to see. I mean, the callousness behind staging a targeted attack on someone in that setting, where all eyes are on them and they know it, is pretty shocking.

I'm not excusing these kids if I'm coming across this way, but I think it's safe to say they were not thinking of the consequences when they did this.

the outrage is definitely magnified because it is on film and seen and replayed so many times.

here is another charming child. this girl encouraged her boyfriend to commit suicide and he did. what a peach she is.

There was an international Basketball player that slugged a ref in a game. He got banned for life.

If, even IF that ref did say something derogatory, there is nothing that warrants this kind of behavior.

I would question the coaches, No? A coach should NEVER condone this.

Wait, I thought we couldn't tolerate the intolerance? That ref was using racial slurs.. And that was ok? Ref deserved to get floored if he was doing that
