Let the rock fall!

I definitely say, let the rock fall! To my way of thinking, trying to hold up this rock is yet another example of human being attempting to subdue nature. Stop a slab of rock from falling as erosion and gravity would have it do? I say, "No!" Particularly in this case. This is the Glen Canyon dam we're talking about, a dam that ruined of of the most beautiful canyons in the world- some who saw it before the damn say Glen Canyon rivaled the Grand Canyon in beauty.

Edward Abbey wrote that Glen Canyon was “a portion of earth’s original paradise.”

To further understand why the Glen Canyon dam was a bad idea in the first place, read more here:

Saw this earlier on the news.

To tweak that old margarine commercial...it's not nice to fuck with Mother Nature.

Still, if it were allowed to fall - or just fell itself - seems there could be some serious damage.

He'll yeah, clear the area and let it fall, it won't destroy the dam anyways.

Perhaps, but I would argue, "Not enough damage!" Not that I want anyone harmed. I say, clear everyone and their boats and other movables the hell out, give recompense to the business owners (like lining them up with future jobs giving tours or rafting business for the newly restored Colorado river) and then take that damn dam down! This would make a lot of people a lot more happier than the solution Abbey suggested in his last book (I'm a fan!) Hayduke Lives!

(And what was Abbey's solution? KABOOM! )
