Carlton Melton

It always amazes me when I hear about a band that's been around a while and wonder why I hadn't heard of them before. J Mascis said his favorite album from 2009 was one of Carlton Melton's (and he's jammed with them). I actually learned about these guys through their drummer, Andy Duvall, who I've run into here in town a few times- really nice and cool guy.

Check out some of their stuff here. I'm absolutely sure some of you will like their stuff. Photos of Photos is my favorite so far (but I've only just begum to explore their catalog). Their touring/ doing some festivals in UK, DE, CZ, BE and NL in September and October so some of you in Europe might want to check them out!

Great! I met the dummer, Andy recently a few times here in town. We talked about music and he mentioned that the time he and his band jammed with J Mascis was THE highlight of his music career. We're getting together for coffee this weekend and I'll pick his brain more about their music- especially about their name, the origin of which I have no clue (maybe a tribute to guitarists Larry Carlton and Barry "The Fish" Melton? We shall see!)

So glad you like them. I'll tell Andy they have a new fan. :plus_one:

Very cool. Where do you live? I just downloaded the Photos of Photos album and am going to listen to give it a listen while on the road this weekend

I live outside of Placerville, CA- about 1/2 way between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. Have a great time this weekend and enjoy the music!

Last night I finally got to see my buddy Andy and his band Carlton Melton play in Mountain Ranch, CA. It was great! They're one of the more unusual bands I've ever seen. They've been around since the says of their earlier band, Zen Guerrilla and really work together super well. They have a unique and well honed form of neo-psychedelia that veritably thunders. After a while it was bit too much for my trashed ears and although they were playing an outdoor venue, I had to sit in my car for part of their set in order to listen without too much pain but it was well worth it. (Most people weren't bothered by the loud volume- it's just me with bad ears). A very unique, excellent music experience. Oh, and the light show was first rate too.
