Uhh, isn't that the best way to become famous? Btw, the link didn't work for me.

Well, one of them is a music course, and one is in the drama school. I'm not sure what else you study in those courses if not music/musicians and performance.

This really does show how education and even culture in general has changed. Sure seems like a lot of ego going on here.

In (I think it was) 1971 I took a jazz survey class at S.F. State taught by jazz alto sax player John Handy. It was an excellent class, I worked hard, learned a lot. John never talked about his own music or put the focus on himself. Never.

But I will and just for fun, here's great cut from Mr. Handy:

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

Can anyone explain how we have come to this point that University Scholars now offer topics such as this to educate?

    What is happening?

Well, to be fair, it sounds like the class is based on social media impact. That actually sounds like a valuable thing to be discussing. Focusing in on one particular person probably just allows them to really focus on the main point, which is the tactics used to create fame and public followings online. This would not REALLY be a course about Beyonce for the sake of Beyonce. It's a course about the impact of social media in pop culture. I see that as a totally reasonable topic to study is communications, sociology, etc. I'm sure they just chose Beyonce as the focus because she is one if the best examples of using social media for that purpose, while not being distracting ridiculous like the Kardashians are. This sounds like a case study course to me, and chances are good that it's pretty damn interesting too.

Let's try and really think about things instead of having knee jerk reactions. It's not always best to assume the worst.
