Crazy indeed, Godfather! The crazy part is that we are draining our aquifers and they won't refill any time too soon. We drove through the San Juaquin Valley last year in the middle of the summer in the middle of this drought and saw feilds being over watered to the point of sending water into the road and crops being watered by sprinklers during the hottest part of the day-- and a lot evaporates with that method of watering.

We will have to evolve to drink sand.

Yes, rr, I've read at least a few articles about the coming El Niño. The prospects of easing the drought look hopeful but (and I hesitate to mention this for fear of sounding overly pessimistic) a few of those articles (from reputable sources) also mention the possiblity that the El Niño could cause as many problems as it solves. There is a strong possibility that this monster El Niño (they say it may be a record one) could send most of the rain to Southern California where could very easily cause flooding and mudslide and leave Northern CA still needing water. It is also possible it might lead to an increase in cholera because warmer waters enhance the growth of Vibrio cholerae, a pathogenic microorganism that spreads the disease. In the past El Niños have created severe flooding in places like India, Thailand, The Philippines and Indonesia.

So the best scenario For all of California would be if the storms track a bit more northerly, and for all locations, if they are spread out over the winter and don't hit all at once so as not to cause too much flooding. This one could be interesting.
