Question About Official Concert Recordings

I'm new to the board and heading to my first Pearl Jam concert next Tuesday in St. Paul (been a fan for 15 years, but living in Eastern South Dakota with no travel money kept me away until now). Anyway, I've never heard of this before but my friend said that he's seen this going on at concerts before.
Basically what he said is that sometimes at concerts the band will have their set recorded while they perform it so that they can sell it shortly after the concert.
1. Is this true?
2. Is this legal?
3. Does Pearl Jam do this (I know that they sell concert bootlegs here, but at the shows?)?
4. If so, how much do they charge?
I'm not interested in illegal bootlegs, but the idea of playing back the concert while I'm driving home sounds awesome.
Thanks.

You'd be buying an officially licensed copy of the show, but Pearl Jam does not do this. Their boots are sold only as a download nowadays and I think they've had about a 2-3 day lag between the show and the release of the bootleg.
Hope that helps.
I'll definitely download the concert online.
