They can't be serious....aren't there women who happen to be Republicans going to be affected by this if this becomes a law of the land? This makes no sense.

  • It doesn't make sense to you because I assume that you are a rational and open-minded individual that doesn't think this is right.
I hope this law doesn't come to fruition in your country.
It will be interesting to see who posts in this thread with support.

Being an old person, I actually remember when women could lose their jobs for being pregnant, married or not. Texas women didn't have the right to retain their jobs until something like the early 70s. And I doubt if this was the only state where that was the case.

This one ain't gonna fly though. Unless these idiots want to piss off half the electorate.

LOL! So true, WP. I'm tempted to write a few letters and tell these numskulls that us oldies "ain't putting up with that shit so you KNOW the younger folks aren't going to go for it".

  • This bill would never pass. But the entire notion of promoting it bears consideration. Who... in their right mind... would suggest- let alone believe- something so absolutely ignorant?

Seems the thrust of it is related to gay marriage with this being a consequence as well. Seems to seek to get around scotus.

So would this bill override FMLA?

For every action there is a reaction. Same as abortion laws which they seem to be limiting under guise of protecting women.

Why it's so important to vote for party that won't nominate Supreme Court justice that even considers this crap. More Santamayors please.

UPS tried to push a female employee out of a job (delivery driver into a desk job or leave of absence, can't remember which) for being pregnant and I think the Supreme Court ruled against UPS. I'm a bit fuzzy on the details off the top of my head but I don't see how this would be able to fly if the SC has already ruled.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

Edit: just saw that this was in regards to single women so never mind.

It does seem that way, mickeyrat. Basically this bill (S.1598) is designed to protect religious people from discriminatory action against them so the religious people can freely discriminate against other people.

Here is an excerpt from the bill. (Full bill text)

"SEC. 3. Protection of the free exercise of religious beliefs and moral convictions.

    (a) In general.—Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Federal Government shall not take any discriminatory action against a person, wholly or partially on the basis that such person believes or acts in accordance with a religious belief or moral conviction that marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman, or that sexual relations are properly reserved to such a marriage."

So there we have it folks. The GOP wants to pass a bill which allows religious people to ignore the actual law and impose their own beliefs upon others with impunity. But the GOP did not stop there ... oh no! They included the phrase "that sexual relations are properly reserved to such a marriage." That's where they really thin the [employee] herd. Pregnant single woman - fired! Gay or lesbian - fired! All fornicators throughout the land - fired, fired, fired!

    Such bullshit.

    Rant over.

Thanks for the post. I'll find it very hard to believe that EVEN FOX NEWS would broadcast this heep of dung on their station. Even they should realize bullshit can only fool but so many even when it hurts their own political base in the end.
