So much for research before writing.

Yellow Ledbetter is a RHCPish guitar riff? What an idiot. That comment alone makes every letter he typed worthless.

maybe if they sold more tickets in FL they'd tour there more often than once or twice a decade and the "music writers" would realize PJ has more albums than Ten.

I read the first paragraph, then realized there must have been an actual IDIOT writing the article. Then stopped. So, I'm guessing it's pretty fucking stupid.

EDIT: Went back and read the article, and I was right!....the reviewer IS an idiot! :)

and that's why ANYONE who knows ANYTHING here in Miami doesn't read the Miami Herald. we should all email that douchebag writer and call the editor.

'Fans cheered predictably throughout the night, but ended up grumbling afterward, frustrated that favorites such as Jeremy, Black, Daughter, Elderly Woman Behind the Counter In a Small Town, I Got Id and Release were passed over for songs the majority of the crowd struggled to identify.'

What the fuck is this world?
  • That review is comical. Severed Hand sounds like Welcome to the Jungle? That's news to me. And I never knew that one of McCready's greatest little riffs actually rips off the RHCP! Even though the Chilis were doing nothing like that back then. Good God, people will actually read this and believe it, that's what is sad. Can anyone just declare themselves a music critic with zero credentials? Where do I sign up?

No kidding......I think I will.....massive hits? I love all that is Pearl Jam, but I am not against a show filled with songs that not everyone knows by heart! Sounds like a refreshing setlist to me...this writer is obviously not a Pearl Jam fan, and listens to way tooo much bad radio!!

I don't make it a habit of contacting a newspaper writer every time I read something I disagree with. Especially with music reviews, I figure the writer's opinion is his opinion, and that's OK.

But this guy, apparently, doesn't understand what a Pearl Jam show is supposed to be about.

The Rolling Stone guy got it. This band has long been unfettered from playing just their commercial successes. They always rely on deep cuts.

In fact, the only "grumbling" I heard about this set was that they played TOO MANY hits.

"the band just before 9 p.m. to perform Oceans, from 1991's Ten, Pearl Jam's first album -- and clear crowning achievement. That primal-scream song was followed by Severed Hand, a track from the group's 2006 self-titled album that's reminiscent of Guns 'N Roses' Welcome to the Jungle."

Oceans is a 'primal scream' song? Wha??

This writer is correct, we fans want to go to shows just to hear all the songs from their greatest hits collection. Better yet, why not just stay home and listen to the cd instead? Who needs songs like "Sad", "Faithfull" and "Oceans". I wouldnt be surprised if the writer wasnt even at the show and wrote the article based on the setlist.

So logic would suggest that the ''greatest American rock band of all time'' (according to a 2005 USA Today reader's poll) would treat fans to their greatest hits

i read that and decided this article was just going to make me angry. what kind of pearl jam fan actually wants to hear greatest hits all night??? my logic suggests that this guy is NOT worth my time!

'Instead, over their two-hour set Wednesday night at a sold-out Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Pearl Jam chose to offer a semi-obscure selection of songs that excluded many massive hits.'

That could be considered offensive to many 15 year old kids. Seriously, I wasn't at the show, but some of you people that were should really write to that guy's boss and inform him that the guy has absolutely no knowledge of rock music, and apparently does no research for his articles. Was there a single paragraph in that article that didn't have a major factual error? That man has no business writing concert reviews.

Look, it's not like this concert reviewer had any way of knowing what a Pearl Jam show is like beforehand. How was he supposed to research? It's not as if practically every show the band has played in the past eight years was recorded and made available to the general public or anything.
