I was given pristine original presses of Sgt. Peppers and Abbey Road over the weekend. I'm listening now for the first time, actually it's the first time I've listened to any Beatles records ever on the turntable. Holy shit! Uh, what the fuck went wrong with all the CD presses in the 80s, 90s etc,? I bought several of the new re-releases on CD and I love em' - really sound great on the stereo and in the car. Seriously though, these records are opening up sounds I've not heard before. Paul's bass lines are so defined, the vocals are smooth, everything about the instrumentation jumps out on the speakers. Wow. Floored. It's like hearing the Beatles for the very first time.
