Safe Travels Keychain - how to clean?

HughFreakingDillonHughFreakingDillon Winnipeg Posts: 35,945
mine is looking a bit tarnished, like an old coin. I don't want to ruin it, and never having cleaned metal before, so any tips on what type of cleaner to use?

Depends on what type of metal they are. If it's anything other than solid brass, hot soapy water & toothbrush will suffice. Rinse and allow to dry completely before handling.
If they are solid brass, first clean as I just mentioned. Then rub a thin coat of ketchup or tomato paste on it and allow it to sit (anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the level of tarnish). Rinse with warm water and buff dry before handling.

Dude, I took mine on a 2297 mile hike up the Appalachian Trail, and it looks battle worn. Those are scars and dirt of achievement, leave it be!!!!

I have these polishing cloths used to take the tarnish off silver, they work on pretty much all metal - worth a shot.

I've used my keychain ever since I received it from ten club. I had to get a pair of pliers & tighten down those two end links because I almost lost it. Mine is very dirty & worn. I like it just the way it is. It gives it character. I've been on many trips plus I'm catholic so it means a little more to me. I might clean it up one day. I just hope I don't loose my keys because I would hate to pay the price they go for now days. Anyway good luck cleaning your up.

I remember Christopher Walken in a movie shoving some hunk of metal up his ass and it was rather clean when he presented it. I'm not sure if that will work though?
