ahh com'on man hahhahhaha here's one more from 1774

    Godfather.

Congress – First Prayer in Congress

O LORD, OUR HEAVENLY FATHER, high and mighty King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, who dost from Thy throne behold all the dwellers on earth, and reignest with power supreme and uncontrolled over all the kingdoms, empires and governments; look down in mercy we beseech Thee, on these American States, who have fled to Thee from the rod of the oppressor, and thrown themselves on Thy gracious protection, desiring henceforth to be dependent only on Thee; to Thee they have appealed for the righteousness of their cause; to Thee do they now look up for that countenance and support which Thou alone canst give; take them, therefore, Heavenly Father, under Thy nurturing care; give them wisdom in council and valor in the field; defeat the malicious design of our cruel adversaries; convince them of the unrighteousness of their cause; and if they persist in their sanguinary purpose, O let the voice of Thy own unerring justice, sounding in their hearts, constrain them to drop the weapons of war from their unnerved hands in the day of battle! Be Thou present, O God of wisdom, and direct the counsels of this honorable assembly; enable them to settle things on the best and surest foundation, that the scene of blood may be speedily closed, that order, harmony and peace may be effectually restored, and truth and justice, religion and piety prevail and flourish among Thy people. Preserve the health of their bodies and vigor of their minds; shower down on them, and the millions they here represent, such temporal blessings as Thou seest expedient for them in this world, and crown them with everlasting glory in the world to come. All this we ask in the name and through the merits of Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Our Savior. Amen.

    – First Prayer in Congress September 7, 1774, Jacob Duche, Carpenters Hall, Philadelphia

It is difficult to learn a new language because you have to find a place or person to teach you. It is extremely difficult for adults who migrate to the US to pick up another language without some help. English language classes can be expensive unless you live in a community that has these type of classes for free or cheap usually through a community center. And when are they learning a new language? Many immigrants are working extremely long hours to cover basic necessities. Many feel like working to care for their family is more important than learning the language. However, their children go to school and they speak English very well - they have to because schools won't slow down for them!

    +1000.

I used to work in tech support where our biggest client base was convenience stores. Imagine a bunch of Canadian white people trying to understand all the folks calling in trying to solve a problem on their hardware/software who generally run these places.

And every single fucking time I heard one of my coworkers yell after the call "learn some fucking english", I'd berate them and embarass them. these people work 12-18 hours a day putting food on the table for their kids/families. yeah, learning to speak perfect english should be their first goddamn priority for YOUR convenience of the 30 seconds you have to talk to them.

    – George Washington, Thanksgiving Proclamation 1789

Oh, eternal and everlasting God, direct my thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the Lamb and purge my heart by Thy Holy Spirit. Daily, frame me more and more in the likeness of Thy son, Jesus Christ, that living in Thy fear, and dying in Thy favor, I may in thy appointed time obtain the resurrection of the justified unto eternal life. Bless, O Lord, the whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of Thee and Thy son, Jesus Christ.

None of that has a damn bit of relevance. If the framers had wanted a "Christian Nation" they would have codified it as such. They expressly forbade doing so in the Constitution. What they did in their private lives doesn't matter, what they wrote into law does matter.

exactly a point I've been making for years, and all I get is an eye-roll most of the time. seriously, can you imagine if current immigrants did what the original immigrants did? come here, pretend to be nice to us, give us raw deals in trades, then fucking slaughter us all? and we bitch that current immigrants won't speak "our" language?

I get so sick and tired of getting emails around christmas every year from family and friends about "keep christ in christmas" and "this is canada, we celebrate chrismtas here, you don't like it, leave" and all that racist bullshit. people don't see it as racist, though. they see it as "patriotic". I always respond to those emails with the same thing: "WE are the original immigrants who changed the original way of life here. respect everyone's beliefs or maybe YOU should leave and go back to Europe".

A Cherokee Feast of Days, a compilation of Native American saying for each day of the year is a way to learn some. I'll post one of my favorites when I can find it.

corporate america was built by those people who came here and brought their god with them (my ancestors as well). not your country. it does not belong to them. it rightfully belongs to those who were here first. interesting how you have had zero comment on all of those facts in this thread.

Actually, to be technically correct, it might be more accurate to say this country was artificially created by powerful people who put invisible political boundaries on maps after most the land was stolen through the process of continental conquest and genocide and if it really belongs to the people maybe it should be given back to the Indians.
