Something tells me he never really quit monitoring what's happening here.

i think he might lurk from time to time. last time i talked to him he was pretty much over the pearl jam forums. this moving train died out around 2010. lots of awesome posters left about that time. it was much better and much more diverse when you did not have to pay $40 to post. i think the discussions had more substance back then. nowadays you pretty much know what each poster is going to say before you read their posts.
I wish I had been in on that.

yeah it was a good time to be on the internet.
I've heard from a lot of people that it was also a complete shit show when it wasn't closed. Apparently it was worse than facebook as far as the abuse and attacks went. I doubt you would have preferred it in the long run Brian! Pretty sure they did indeed close it to the public because the mods just couldn't keep up with all the abuse.
Or they just wanted people to pay up

I love this description. Seems to fit here well. As for me... I come here to read different things, I don't get involved in very many threads, cause while it is no where near the brutality level that it used to be, it still gets rather brutal in here. But that's part of debate. ( I know I'm a weirdo) Sometimes I envision these conversations happening at preparties.. And think.. Good thing this doesn't happen very often if at all.. ( I don't know if it has or not, I've only been to one pre party.. But it still broadens the mo d, and gives depth to the soul, and so I enjoy it.
  • for me this place is to provide a good laugh, like the comments section under internet stories. I do like seeing different opinions and viewpoints but like gimme said, all of us are pretty much broken records here and just by looking at who is posting we can get an idea of what they believe.
but my personal favorite, that 60 percent of the time makes me chuckle every time...are the anti gunners that say how much they cherish human life, that human life is so precious and special that's why we need to do something about gun violence, if we save even one life it's worth it.....oh but all the killers they have in their lives are totally cool. don't touch their cars, steak knives, alcohol or tobacco. yeah we can live with all the shit that kills people out there.....just not guns. and it's not because of personal bias agendas against guns, it's because guns are killing people. pffft heheheh. absolutely hilarious.
if you think what I believe is stupid, bizarre, ridiculous or outrageous.....it's ok, I think I had a brain tumor when I wrote that.

yeah, because so many mass killings have been done by a steak knife.

  • well since in pearl jam land "mass" means two or more. all you need to do is look at china, and there have been plenty of "mass" killings by steak knives.

last I checked, no one here is debating the validity of any of the ammendments of the constitution of china.

  • ok all good, I didn't know we were only allowed to reference the united states. it would be great if you listed your parameters for debate rather than just assuming I know them. how the fuck was I supposed to know that I can't use china as an example to prove you wrong? all you typed out was a sarcastic smug comment.

Ok, you may have a point. I'm not sure there's ever been a discussion on here about relative crime rates and gun ownership in China vs. the USA, but I haven't got a long history here so I could well be wrong.

I looked into your comment about knife killing sprees and yes, there have been some in China, which is interesting. The ones deemed to be terrorist related involved multiple assailants, which you would expect, since unless you are very young, or disabled, or in some other way vulnerable then a single assailant wouldn't be able to attack a large number of people. Of course, personal gun ownership is basically prohibited in China, and the murder rate is about one fifth that of the USA, so I wouldn't view that as a great example of pro-gun statistics.

How does anyone come to a place in their life that has them try and present an argument drawing a parallel between guns- designed for killing- and, among many other items, cars- designed for transportation?

The sole design of a gun is to kill. The silly comparisons between high mountains, cars, gumballs, and steak knives is a reach by gun lovers trying desperately to offer some form of an argument that justifies assault rifles in homes. Now THAT is a laugh. Seriously.

If you want to compare other items designed for killing such as bombs, hand grenades, bazookas, and fighter jets... we can talk.

Don't worry so much about it though. In your country, the inmates run the asylum. The people that truly know best are handcuffed by the overwhelming majority of other people that simply cannot see the forest through the trees. Highlighting, of course, the fundamental problem with a democracy- some people get a voice when really... they should be led by the nose.

    Shoot shit. Yee haw!

I'm not sure if you guys know what a circle is, by my definition, I want nothing to do with it. So I don't consider AMT a circle jerk!

Every single gun thread in this place has been about guns in america. not anywhere else. The only time other countries are mentioned is showing the absurdity of the gun lovers point of view. This is not my parameters for debate. But sure, if you want to bring up other ways of mass killings in other countries (two deaths is a double homicide, not a mass killing), have at it. You will not be able to prove me wrong. Especially if referencing sheer numbers alone.

    No popcorn for you!

It is not another gun thread.
Perhaps Canadians are getting tired of having to divulge with the Americans over everything including a website as such.

edit - As a Canadian it feels the forum at times is anti anything American.

Not to worry! That was actually interesting because I hadn't heard about the Chinese knife mass murders. Sounds like Agatha Christie mixed with Kathie Reichs!
