A lot of concerns going into the race with these new aero packages.

Three cars flipping and going airborne should be a cause for concern. Something is iffy.

The aero-kits haven't had enough testing....looks like Chevy needs to continue their development.

I've always heard this is a great time. I don't know shit about indy racing, but hopefully I can get there one of these years.

I went to Indy for the inaugural F1 Grand Prix back in 2000. Haven't been to the 500 yet, but it's definitely a spectacle I want to see. I used to go to races all the time when CART was the major sanctioning body. Nazareth, Cleveland GP, Mid-Ohio.

The Indy 500 is an event unlike any other. Come for the entire weekend!!

Friday is a special practice day called Carb Day with an evening concert. Saturday has a concert and special activities including a downtown parade, the race is an all-day spectacle Sunday, and then Monday is Memorial Day to recover!!

Not dead, but I'm sure you know all about the IndyCar/CART debacle that was bad for the sport. When I used to go, the racers were household names even to non race fans....Foyt, Andretti, Parnelli, Rahal, Mark Donahue, Unser, etc. the sport is a lot more international now and I'm not sure that has helped....also, there for a while every car was basically exactly the same.

Yes, it is a great spectacle for sure but I'm afraid it has lost some luster since its glory days. And, oh yeah, we would take a motor home and stay all weekend. Even back in the 70s the Indy cops pretty much looked the other way no matter what you were doing.

The crowds are back. Five years ago I could get a $125 ticket for $50 from a scalper. But the last two years they have been harder to find and you are paying face value or more (at least right before the race).

Report: IndyCar Driver Was Skewered In Practice Wreck

Canadian driver James Hinchcliffe will probably not race again this year after a brutal single-car crash during Indy 500 practice yesterday. It turns out this was the best-case scenario: according to a day-after report, Hinchcliffe came frighteningly close to bleeding out there on the track.

A suspension failure caused Hinchcliffe to lose steering in Turn 3. He hit the wall hard, flipped, and a piece of his suspension shot into his cockpit, piercing both of his legs. According to Racer, the decision was made that Hinchcliffe had to be cut from his car immediately, his legs still impaled.

With the multiple intrusions, Hinchcliffe experienced massive blood loss at the crash site, and despite the gravity of the soft tissue injuries to his lower extremities, stopping the bleeding became an immediate priority for the medical staff to address once he was pulled from the chassis.

Sound like a very close call. Total bummer. Hinchcliffe is one of my favorite racers.

They've never fully recovered from the Cart/Indy rift. The drivers salaries are less than what they were in the 90's and a lot of drivers pay for a seat to race in Indy. Don't get me wrong, I love the sport and hope it thrives but it is not what it used to be. I'll try and pos the article I read about drivers borrowing loads of money just to pay for a ride at Indy. The author relates it to other sports and how crazy it would be for a pitcher to buy his way onto a baseball team.
Great win for Montoya! I was rooting for him.

well then, "everybody" was disappointed today because it was way more about the 230 mph racing than the crashes.

It's on my bucket list. To go. Although also on my bucket list is to be in a car (as a passenger and preferably in a race and not in a police pursuit) going 225 mph. Maybe Lewis Hamilton will take me for a spin.
