Used Vinyl

Do many of you buy used vinyl?
Ive been to a few flea markets and picked up about 12 records over the last month. Only a few sound really good, I'm thinking if I gave them a good cleaning they would sound better. Just have to pick up a brush and some cleaner, only new to the vinyl game. Been buying all the PJ records over the last 10 years but now finally have a set up to listen.

I have been buying used records for decades. Flea markets can be great, but it's a lot of work and sometimes is just a bust. First you have to hope that vendors bring records. Then you have to hope that they are records you want. Last you have to pray that they are in decent condition. I find the whole thing fun. You might want to go to a local record swapmeet. At least you will know there will be records. Also, "The early bird gets the worm" is more than true when hunting records. I don't even bother going to the flea market after 7:30 a.m.

I haven't used Spin Clean, but it seems like a reasonable way to start. Only $100 and if you plan on buying used records it is very necessary to get a cleaner of some sort. Mine is one of the vacuum style cleaners and I love it. People also use rollers and come people even use the wood glue method by covering their record with the glue and peeling it off after it dries.

    Have fun!

    Nothing since then. I suck.

The Spin Clean system works great! I've used a variety of record cleaning systems over many years of spinning vinyl and this is my favorite system so far. It really cleans those groves deeply and if any scratches are only on the surface and not severe, most used records will sound good to great. If a record still sounds bad after running through the Spin Clean it probably will always sound bad.

The only draw back to Spin Clean is that the drying cloths get damp quickly. I bought extra cloths and set up a drying rack that doesn't rub against the grooves and set a low speed fan in front of it for thorough drying and can clean up a good batch at a time that way.

I also use the spin clean and it works really well. I used to buy a lot more used vinyl but prices have crept up lately.

I combine my spin clean with a vacuum system. Clean on the SpinClean and vacuum with the Record Doctor

Outside of ebay or discogs, Ive really not bought many used records in the past 3-4 years. Partially because there isn't much that I need or want, but mainly because alot of places are picked over. With vinyl really skyrocketing in popularity over the past 5 years, its tough to find really great stuff. And unless you are at your local every other day or 3, the difficulty of finding a grail is slim and if you do, then you have invested a lot of time to track it down. Its just not as much fun as it used to be.

I just clean them with the spin clean, remove them, put the on the Record Doctor, Vacuum one side, then the other...repeat for other records.
