I was thinking about this the other night when I heard Sonic Reducer on Sirius. What is your favorite and least favorite Pearl Jam cover songs. I'm not talking about the original song, but the songs you love hearing PJ play, and the ones you would consider going and taking a restroom break while they are doing it. Here are mine:

Favorites
-Sonic Reducer
-Crown of Thorns
-RITFW

Least
-Driven to Tears
-Know Your Rights
-Ruby Tuesday

You know I never cared for Last Kiss, but I heard a version done on this past tour that sounded pretty damn good. It sounds different with the drums they used. I think it was San Diego, but I could be wrong.

Whats with all the hate for Know Your Rights? Am I the only person that loves it?
    ~AKA Dave-of-the-dead~

    I don't wanna think, I wanna feel

    Dublin 23/08/06 Lisbon I 04/09/06 Lisbon II 05/09/06 Paris 11/09/06 Verona 16/09/06

    London 18/06/07 Dusseldorf 21/06/07 Copenhagen 26/06/07 Nijmegen 28/06/07
  • No sir, audiodave, you're talking to a big "Know Your Rights" fan here. It was a powerhouse to witness in person, and tremendously pertinent. I really felt like I was part of a relevant moment when Eddie was belting that out in Champaign.

"Baba O'Riley" has been one of the weaker covers since the early days, but it was great then, and it's a fantastic song.

"Gimme Some Truth" is really pretty bad. The band performs it fine, but it's a pretty crap song. Most solo John Lennon was preachy and naively idealistic, and this song is up there with the worst of it. Ed tends to be of the mind that any song with an anti-government message is a good song, and I think sometimes he fails to realize that a song has to meet a handful of other criteria as well.

I think my personal favorite is "Leaving Here," and my least favorite is "Gimme Some Truth." Their version of "All Along the Watchtower" is pretty lame too.

Favourite before the last tour was Rockin In The Free World, but after seeing how intense Masters Of War could be at Newcastle, this one takes it!!!

Absolute 'I would drop dead if I heard Ed sing this live' favourite: No surrender :o

Other favourites... pretty much everything that's been mentioned. Crazy Mary is my favourite live song. Trouble was brilliant... picture in a frame was beautiful... I've yet to hear, but reallly want to, Baba O'Reilly... beast of burden was pretty cool... black diamond was fucking excellent... it's ok and save it for later are beyond words.

least favourites???? huh... can't think of any but there are some I skip over but just can't think of what they are.
    The Astoria??? Orgazmic!
    Verona??? it's all surmountable
Dublin 23.08.06 "The beauty of Ireland, right there!"
    Wembley? We all believe!
Copenhagen?? your light made us stars
    Chicago 07? And love
    What a different life

hehe, yes, gimme some truth is a bad song and idealistic, but know your rights is... edgy? original? come on! (in gob bluth voice ;)) ill take gimme some truth over know your rights any day. that crappy "im not singing along with the music at all, just growling/talking nonsense lyrics to my own rhythm" thing is awful. it's a bunch of jaded and cynical ramblings that are no less naive than john lennon singing about not wanting to be lied to anymore.
