i got an email from Joesph Arthur saying that he was not going to make CD's anymore. Who knows why.

    What?
That's kind of crazy! He's so imaginative. He's made so many!

Yikes. It sounds like he's a bit burnt out with trying to earn a living from his music. :(

That's probably why he's pushing his paintings so much.
I find it a complete mystery as to why he isn't more popular. He deserves to be rich!
Honestly, I think he's happy to be in the space he's in. He's got enough connections to make big things happen, but he doesn't and it's probably intentional. He's doing what he loves without record label pressures, he gets to jam with who's who in the music business, he has a roof over his head and he doesn't get mobbed walking down the street.

I'd do it his way if I had an ounce of music talent (sadly I don't lol)

my parents saw him in portland a couple months ago and they said there were about 300 people in the crowd and they flew from edmonton, canada to see him. he made a comment about how few people were at the show and when my parents told him where they flew from, he was a little stunned and then thanked them.

they did say it was a wicked show and the guy is unbelievable live. my mom even got a pic taken with him at his art show the previous night.

He is amazing live. It was cool when he was touring with Mike Mills and I still need to see RNDM live, but I love him best solo when he does the looping stuff with his pedals. It's mesmerizing!

In Florida, I watched him sing over a loop he recorded and paint a painting too. It was great!

I don't know about that. He has often expressed his frustration with having to struggle to make ends meet and to draw an audience. I think he feels discouraged by it (going off of the things he has said himself in various places). I'm not saying he wants the kind of fame that gets you mobbed on the street. But i think he very much wants to at least be big enough to make a decent amount of money to play with.
I agree this is a management issue (on his own part as well as those he works with). It may also just be a personality issue. He may want the stability, but might not be able to do what needs to be done just because of disposition. That is complete conjecture of course (and not a criticism). Anyway, really I just can't believe more people aren't intonspending the money in him. He's so awesome, and collaborates with so many awesome people too.

Since it doesn't seem like a CD is coming, or the digital download will be available on itunes, Google Play, or Amazon, I just bit the bullet and purchased the cassette. Links for Mp3, FLAC, and WAV downloads are emailed instantly after purchase. I have no use for the cassette, so it basically cost me $19 for the digital download. Hopefully it will be released on vinyl at some point. Can't wait to finally listen to this album!

A new single is on SoundCloud. "Pluto". Would post, but too hard on my phone right now.
Not great for me. Pretty Electronica-y and overly repetitive, which isn't really up my alley. It might grow on me, but right now I'd say it's my least liked Joseph Arthur song ever. But i do respect his love of variety when it comes to his own music.

I find it weird that this song is available to download on Amazon, but Days Of Surrender isn't available to download on any of the main download sites. I have a strange feeling he wasn't happy with how the album turned out.

At least he finally put the download up on his website. I really like it (like that was ever in doubt!!), although it's making me want the vinyl even more now!

Saw JA in Chicago on Friday night. It was my first time seeing him live, and it exceeded my expectations. It was a fantastic show! He played for an hour and 45 minutes and the setlist was great. Even saw Ed's buddy, Theo Epstein at the show. Go see him if he comes to your town. You will not be disappointed.

I'm starting to worry that the Days of Surrender LP is never going to happen....

I was actually planning on asking him about that after the show. But after waiting for a while in line for pics/autographs, etc, he started talking to Theo Epstein and that was taking way too long, so I left. I was hoping to get a solid answer about that. I hope it happens.

Anyone want to come to his show at City Winery in NYC with me tonight? Not too many seats left. Shoot me a PM!

Otherwise, is anyone going? Think I'm going solo if I can't find someone to go with!

I bought stage-table ticket back in November but ate it as I went away for New Years. How was the show? Anything interesting/unusual get played? He's playing some small place in Westchester later this month so I got that at least.

Didn't end up going actually. Couldn't find anyone to go with (my usual problem), and by the time I decided screw it, ill go, it was sold out. Oh well, saved some much needed $$.

But didn't know the Westchester show was a thing, and that's really tempting.

FYI, the vinyl is available for pre-sale on Amazon.com for only $19.99. I just live chatted with them to make sure they actually knew they were getting it, and it wasn't another of those 'Amazon claims they'll have it and then cancel 3 months later' situations. They confirmed that it's for sure. :)
