Mystery Vinyl - a plea/hope in vain?

swervedriverswervedriver Sheffield, UK Posts: 182
Please, please, can only people who are serious vinyl collectors place orders!
I know I am wasting my breath and hoping against hope with this one! I know a lot of the vinyl will end up being flipped on the bay within hours for a crazy price to fund a nice vacation for some people.
But, wouldn't it be nice if these sought after vinyl pieces were received by those who want it for a decent price. I think it's fine for people to swap with members stuff that they need/already have. Sorry everyone for rant and hoping I am a lucky one on Saturday

The funny thing is that plenty of serious vinyl collectors will be the ones doing the flipping if they don't get what they are looking for in order to fund a grail hunt or something.

That's not true man. I have the entire PJ catalog on vinyl - and any of the major LPs I may get will be going to those that don't have them.

That's true, because the more serious collectors are more likely to already have the rare item they are lucky to receive.... hopefully most will handle that through trading rather than selling, but in the end, I'm not sure there is a real difference. Either way, the high secondary market value of the item will remain.

Yep I guess so, but be nice if us collectors could arrange a swap shop type of thang

Good man - I also only need Benny to complete my collection, and will also do a fair trade with what I get in lucky dip coz I won't be lucky enough to get a Benny in the draw!

I hope they go to vinyl players, never mind collectors!

Just for the record- I am a "serious " collector and only need a Benny to complete the set, but I won't pay a thousand bucks to land one. I will do a fair trade with a member with what I get, but knowing my luck I will get a RNDM or tres mtns ( no offence meant Jeff!)

Totally agree - can't see point in a sealed record but plenty do!

I have paid $200-$350 each to get Binaural, Riot Act, Avocado, Lost Dogs, RVM. I've also bought the reissues of course and I spin them all on a regular basis and getting a Benny would be a dream come true. I'd even be fine with paying $500 for one but sadly they go for twice that amount. No Code and Yield are on the bottom of my favorite PJ albums but those are 2 that I don't have as well and if I don't end up getting something I need, I would love to work a trade with a fellow member that would put theirs on a turntable and crank it up as it is meant to be.

Thats awesome man. As I have seen many times on this forum, you are a stand up guy. I just think the amount of people that will hook up fellow fans for cost are rare, but thats not to say they don't exist.

Not sure i understand this post completely. I have all the pearl jam vinyl first presses and reissues, so therefore am i not a serious vinyl collector? Should all ready having them all disqualify me from trying for a mystery vinyl?

I will still be looking to buy a mystery vinyl when it goes on sale. If I am lucky enough to score another benny or other rarer record I will look at trading it to someone on here for a donkey kong msg poster. I see it as win win. I pay $50 (plus australian postage which is a crazy amount) for a record that I can use to trade for a poster that is impossible to find anywhere else and someone gets a record they might need, probably with the value of the trade for less than the vinly is worth. Ive tried to buy the poster outright for years with no success.

I don't "need" anything. I feel that is always an awkward choice of a word for wordly possessions. I will be very happy if I score in that mystery sale and hope for the best. If I score something that I already have, I will definitely try to trade on here. There are so many nice people on here that have done me good in the past, it would feel very weird and selfish and bad to go and try to make a buck out of something. I also have a Donkey Kong. People from these forums got it for me, it is special because I love the poster and the show was on my birthday. If somebody would trade a Benny for it, I hope nobody would be mad at me if I traded it :star: I hope, we all get something that we like! And if not, hopefully, good trades will ensue :)

Hey guys and gals, I am an avid vinyl collector, and new to the Ten Club. This is obviously an amazing opportunity for me so I can start my PJ vinyl section. As I said I am new though, so I don't know how it works, how to order etc... Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Be logged in before they go on sale and keep hitting refresh in the store home page until it becomes visible. It will likely be on the stores front page on the featured items page. Have your postage address all ready saved on your profile so you can select it rather than entering it again. Once you get to the payment details after you put your credit card in and hit confirm dont hit refresh or back. It may take some time. If it is sold out it will link back to the confirmation page and say something like item not available. If that happens your out of luck. If your lucky enough to get one you should get a confirmation email .

There might be better ways others might know but this is what ive done in the past.

Among other things, I'm really hoping to score an original pressing of Ten. When that came out I stupidly switched to those shiny silver things, even though I had been a rabid record lover all my life. That album means a lot to me and I feel so dumb for not buying it on vinyl back in the day. If anyone gets one and doesn't want it, please hit me with a pm. Thanks!

If I am lucky enough to get to purchase I vow to trade any duplicates. Hopefully the bay does not get flooded and people are cool enough to help each other out. There is nothing better than cranking PJ vinyl as loud as possible!

I'm hoping for an original Ten (or the Benny, obv). That would be awesome. :) If I get something good that I already have, I'd be looking to trade for original Ten and/or original Vs. or an original Soldier Field.
