Where would you like to be in 20 years ?

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover." - Mark Twain.

Personally I never had a plan...until 11 years ago, I just worked and lived like that day was my last, then my son was born (21 years ago) and that slowed me down a little in a good way but still I just kept living without a plan, so I was just curious what the 30-40 year old groups are thinking about thier future.

30 to 40 year old groups. Sounds like an exclusive club, GF. Haha!

Not to be the doom and gloom guy, but in 20 years... the world is going to be much different place.

For example, I watched a VICE episode the other night that detailed a global collapse of the ocean's ecosystem due to overfishing and loss of reef habitat (mid-century prediction).

It's hard not to feel your stomach pit when you consider such an event.

I also feel that we haven't fully realized the exponential acceleration of the impending cataclysmic events that will make things very uncomfortable for many of us in a few decades. They are not very far away.

So where do I want to be? Good question.

Yeah, I'm hitting 50 in a few months!

For me, it's not so much a question of where I want to be but of how.

Simply put, older and wiser. Still happy with my love.

    And animals.

I wish I could look at it beyond the personal / self-ish side at this point, but it's the best I've got right now :)

In 20 years exactly, I'll be eligible to retire. Hopefully I'll be financially ready to by then. Seems like so far away.

Most likely I will be stuck behind enemy lines in "Occupied America", fighting off a Soviet Invasion alongside Don Swayze.

My kids will be old enough to be on their own, I can retire and we are going to travel the country in a RV. Or backpack through Europe which I never got to do during college :)
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

No idea. A lot can happen in 20 years! I guess I just go with my gut each day and find out where i'll be 20 years from now 20 years from now. ;) ... I'll be nearly 60 though, so retirement will be coming up fast by then. Weird. Might start a brand new career at that point.

an awakining LOL! you know how when we are young we think we'll never grow old and die ? my parents are only about 20 years older than me so I never thought about growing old and what will I do when retirement comes then at about 45 years old (or so) I thought I'd better get my ass in gear so that I can relax one day and my wife and would be able to leave our son something, now believe it or not I look forward to retireing and living each day what ever it might bring as I age, I call life "The Great Adventure" because that's what it has been and I don't see that changing.

In 20 years il be about to turn 50 and my son-to-be will be a man.
I'd like to be dirtbaggin from one adventure to the next. Working on the Triple Crown and knocking off the Colorado 14ers, notching a first ascent in the Andes, climbing big walls, chasing big waves and fat trout, reading, writing, smoking, and giving all the time I can to anyone who can use it.
Wife at my side, son forging ahead.

I hope by that age we can finally give up the need for money and stability and live on experiences.

Nice. I nearly died in a car accident 5 years ago, so my plan is to simply be alive which means I'll be happy. :)

I've told BB before that this state still can't get over being racist towards African Americans. We haven't evolved to Muslim hatred yet. He'll be fine here!
