Less than 20 hours to go. I had to bail on sitting out front of the shop for RSD until this is over with a friend. Not a very good friend as one of those would still go at 4am and would hold our spots. This friend said great, I will pick you up at 7:10 when I told him.

I saw stories of people camping outside record stores all over the country, so to get into the spirit of RSD and since our big event is online, I started F5ing already. Can I check if it is OK for me to get a stand in F5er while I take bathroom breaks?

It's good that you started already.... practice makes perfect. I'm not sure about the stand in though, sorry. I guess it would be ok, as long as your not gone for more that 19 hours

this is something I think a lot of people are overlooking. the website will almost certainly crash or slow down to a crawl, and there will be inevitible multiple threads of "is this happening to anyone else?", ironically further slowing down the site.

there will be more people shut out than allowed in. and this place is going to ERUPT.

I'm doing RSD first, my store opens at 7. I should be able to get my stuff there and then head home for this debacle. Just hoping I can get one.

Wish mine opened at 7am. They all seem to be opening at 10am around here (Chicago burbs). The one I'm going to, the owner told me he would show up at 8am and hand out numbers to everyone there, and they are free to leave and come back at 10am. So I think I'll go there, get a number, come back to lose the Pearl Jam rush at 9am (central time zone), and then go back to get my White stripes and McCartney lp's hopefully.

I know people have been doing it for black friday and shit. I find that stuff incredibly sickening. I just had this idea that RSD was different. but i guess not.

if they really wanted to promote independent record/music stores, these titles would randomly distributed to the stores sporadically all year long. that way you wouldn't have this bullshit rush of a big sales day, followed by 6 months of poverty. you'd have people popping in once a week, and probably buying some stuff while there even if they don't find what they were hoping for.

Other than trying to score this mystery vinyl, I'm out this year. I've had enough. It's such a hassle and I always end up buying shit I normally wouldn't because the stuff I really want is unavailable.

In the beginning it was more about supporting indie stores and labels. Now it's all about reissuing crap by major labels that could be found in many dollar bins. The rest of the "limited" hype junk is made for flippers to buy and sell to dummies who can't wait a few months when a lot of it, not all, will be selling for the same or lower cost as if they camped out and bought it on RSD.

The other by-product is that it gluts the pressing plants with pointless reissues and knocks all the indie labels to the bottom of the job list. It's all a big sham. But for those who actually still have fun and are buying for themselves, have a great day.
