The ideas on 'fat' and its impact on health has changed a lot in the last 20 years but a lot of this seems very misleading. Overeating may make you obese but eating crap in some form of moderation is still going to make you overweight.
Wine is good for you.0 -
"I thought, you know, this is really interesting," said Sloan.
Gotta love this quote!
I tend to go with the common sense factor of moderation, mixed with the once (or thrice)-in-awhile indulgence.

See, I've also heard wine is healthy (much like coffee), but always with a caveat.eddiec said:The ideas on 'fat' and its impact on health has changed a lot in the last 20 years but a lot of this seems very misleading. Everything has a caveat.
LIFE has a caveat.
I've come to radically reduce the stock I place in studies, as well as those who conduct them.

While I might agree that eating whatever you want, in moderation, is ok for weight the author doesn't address concerns about other health issues. For instance, there are emerging studies that suggest that consuming foods derived from GMOs are linked to gluten disorders and even certain forms of cancer. Obesity is a huge concern but it is not the only one.Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

For sure, riotgrl. And beyond that... who knows. We have no idea what the long-term affects of eating lab experiment frankenfoods will be. Personally, I have no interest in being one of the guinea pigs.riotgrl said:While I might agree that eating whatever you want, in moderation, is ok for weight the author doesn't address concerns about other health issues. I suggest if some of you have the time watch the documentary "Forks over Knives" it highlights the 20 year China study that compares eating habits in relation to diseases in geographical regions factoring in westernized fast foods and products vs rural villages with traditional eating habits.Very eye opening stuff.I highly recommend it.i_lov_it said:

rr, I haven't changed my av since I re-joined awhile back
The doc sounds interesting. I wonder if it's similar to the diets/foods eaten in Greece...heard it's one of the healthiest, in terms of longevity and overall physical well-being.0 -
Ok yeah for sure I'll give it a go...Cheers for that.rr165892 said:

I've seen it and it is definitely eye opening. But there have been some studies conducted that refute some of the claims Campbell made in The China Study. Here is an interesting debate between Campbell and Cordain that goes into more detail.rr165892 said:

there's too much misinformation out there for anyone to really know what the fuck they are talking about. Butter is bad. Margarine is good. oh wait, margarine is bad now, butter is good for you! well, not good, but not as bad!
eat organic vegetables. that's as far as the medical community knows for sure.By The Time They Figure Out What Went Wrong, We'll Be Sitting On A Beach, Earning Twenty Percent.0 -

Eat whatever the fuck you want. The key is exercise. You don't have to be a gym rat or a long distance runner. But get up and go for a walk, chase the dog/kids around the yard, etc.Star Lake 00 / Pittsburgh 03 / State College 03 / Bristow 03 / Cleveland 06 / Camden II 06 / DC 08 / Pittsburgh 13 / Baltimore 13 / Charlottesville 13 / Cincinnati 14 / St. Paul 14 / Hampton 16 / Wrigley I 16 / Wrigley II 16 / Baltimore 20 / Camden 22 / Baltimore 24 / Raleigh I 25 / Raleigh II 25 / Pittsburgh I 250

True, if weight is your only consideration. Our overly sugary diets hurt our livers regardless of our size...though it must be noted that most people who exercize eat healthier anyways, it takes dedication to get the dyuhbitus!HesCalledDyer said:Eat whatever the fuck you want. Not really true. This applies to those who are a healthy weight because they already have the balance worked out in their diet and lifestyle (and of course thst balance is the goal, and i think the point of this thread). But If you suddenly started eating a ton of crap and increase the portions (aka whatever the fuck you want assuming you actually want crap), you'd get fatter fast. In fact, 70% of it is about diet. 20% about exercise. 10% is just plain old genetics.HesCalledDyer said:Eat whatever the fuck you want. The key is exercise. A person who is fat can't lose weight without dramatically changing their diet even if they exercise hard 4 hours a day. But they can drop weight extremely quickly of they radically change their diet, even if they don't increase their exercise at all.
It is almost all about diet.Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0
