I'm fortunate to have been born into and live a life free to be me (cue Marlo Thomas =) ).

My hope is for the abducted women in Nigeria, the ones treated - and killed - horrifically by sheer virtue of gender, religion, having been abused, the ones no matter where trying to live an honest life and dealt a fucked hand or a fucked partner.

That said, there are some - many - women on this board whom I so respect for their humor, candor, resilience, perspective, way with words...so many reasons.

    Cheers to you.

Too bad this woman would never know what an amazing contribution she made to medical science. (it was kinda fucked up in the first place, but the end result is amazing-i did read more about her)

Yay to all the truly amazing ladies out there.

I do believe her family should be compensated. I don't know if that ever happened.

Don't think they ever will...it's been so long, and there were no consent laws back then. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2013/08/08/science/after-decades-of-research-henrietta-lacks-family-is-asked-for-consent.html?referrer=&_r=0

I do agree that the should be compensated, Henrietta and her family's medical conditions are all out there for the world to see.
