This is gonna be their first season. I think they announced their existence sometime in 2013 or 2012, I don't remember exactly but I know Bloomberg was still mayor because of the hubbub over building an MLS stadium in Corona.

So they announced this Cityzens thing, I don't know if it's restricted to Season Ticket Holders but they gave them 500 points to start off with, which could buy an MLS subscription. The rest is like you earn points by going to games and stuff which you can exchange for other prizes. Pretty cool.

The whole thing with Lampard was a real mess. Bullshit that he won't be coming over until after the EPL season is over.

Yeah, that Lampard scandal sure looked like a bait-and-switch the club used to sell season tickets. I think the club rightfully got a black eye over that. I'm excited to see a couple of new teams in the league, and some more big names. It only helps soccer in this country. But I hope NYCFC doesn't become another Chivas USA - the poor, bastard child of a big parent club. They already look like Man City, and Man City looks to be calling the shots where players are concerned. Any loans and transfers between those clubs will clearly favor one team, and it isn't going to be the MLS team. But I honestly wish you guys a successful inaugural season!

there's some talk on the nycfc forum that the business stuff is being handled by Man City's staff. They used an expression in an email or something that was decided to be British, though personally I'd never heard it before so I couldn't say either way.

    Did you see this one?

Tomorrow I'll be in sec 115 coughing, sneezing, and potentially choking on cough drops. Come say hi!
But seriously don't, I'm probably contagious.

Thanks! seeing as the doors are already open and I'm still sitting in queens waiting on my friends i question whether or not I'll actually get to see the inside of the stadium. I thought there would be plenty of parking but people are posting on Facebook that if you need parking you should have gotten there hours ago.

I don't have any skin in the game as far as NYCFC goes, but I think this sounds like a pretty good idea. They could build a solid stadium with soccer in mind, and have a place to really call home. The problem now is that they don't play at "home". Where they play currently wasn't designed to be a soccer facility and everybody knows it is just temporary. The pitch is too small, and sight-lines aren't right, and it really is the Yankees home.

The biggest problem I see with the proposed location is that it isn't conveniently located for the fans, and doesn't look to be an area that has supporting infrastructure necessary to get the fans out and engaged before and after a match. But I'm not from there, so could be way off base. I like that it is in the city, but it needs to be in an easily accessible area filled with nearby dinging/drinking options. I think of teams like Dallas who built a decent place, but put it in Frisco where it is not convenient. They draw very few fans. The Sounders have to share a stadium with the Seahawks, but the stadium was designed with soccer in mind from the beginning, and the location is perfect as far as accessibility and amenities. Consequently we have 40,000 fans at each game. So as long as the location can support the fan base, and is easy to get to by car and public transportation, it should be good. And once you have a "home" that the fans support, it will be like magic. Toronto, Houston, SKC, RSL and now San Jose have all built really nice soccer specific stadiums that the fans have really embraced. It is very cool to see. Hope for the same good news out of NYCFC.

This http://bleacherreport.com/tb/dgxfn has a lot more detail/practical info. The geography of the stadium and logistics of getting fans to it is undoubtedly going to be the hardest part. They marketed this team as the REAL NYC team cuz the Red Bulls are in Jersey and named after a beverage. There's been huge debates about where a stadium should be. The potential to have it actually in Manhattan is probably going to be a huge selling point for the team, because they can back up their marketing spiel with "look we did it! we have a soccer stadium in ny, ny!" and gain back some of the love/trust lost with the Lampard deal. There are still people who'd argue that the location of this stadium while technically in Manhattan isn't like "reeeeeeeally" Manhattan because it's all the way north, closer to the Bronx than midtown. Personally I wouldn't make that argument but I know people who would. There's a lot of people crying for a stadium in Westchester or in the Long Island section of Queens (by which I mean everything east of flushing) because they would rather have parking available and there's more unused space there. I've seen guys argue that Yonkers/Westchester doesn't count as Upstate cuz it's across the street from the Bronx, and they're serious. I would like to think the team is smarter than that. I always kind of assumed it made the most sense to put the stadium in Queens where they originally wanted it (near Shea Stadium) because the nearby neighborhoods are mostly Latino and theyre gonna be huge supporters of the team, moreso if it's in their backyard. That's just the impression I got from my friends and my convos about it with people who are already buying their bootleg Jerseys on Roosevelt. However - If they can get the deal done with Columbia and get construction done within a few months I think that location would be pretty nice in the summer, but our season started in March. That stadium is gonna be fuckin' freezing with the wind coming off the water - and the logistics ARE gonna be a nightmare.

I dunno I'm conflicted about it.
