Leash.......Overrated?

I was at the Boston show on Thursday and I agree with all of you that it was an incredible show--which blew away the show in Hartford two weeks ago. And while I was happy to hear Leash, I wasn't THAT happy. I mean I would have been so much more thrilled to hear Glorified G (preferably dedicated to Dick Cheney) or Tremor Christ (their scariest, most intense song) or In My Tree (beautiful song).

Why the obsession with Leash? Has it occurred to you guys that the reason they don't usually play it might be because the song is a little dated? In fact, it's the worst song on Vs.--in my very humble opinion. Maybe they knew it was kind of a contrived anthem so they gave up on the song???????

    Nice first Post.

I heard it last night. It was good. The band nailed it.

Would I have lived if I didn't hear it?
I think anyone who says they wouldn't have, and means it, should just end it all right now.

I think Leash is a good song, but I agree with you that Tremor Christ would be awesome to hear. How often do they pull that one out?

Leash is one of my favourite songs but i can see your point. I would still love them to play it in Aus. :D
How was Eds vocals when they palyed it? It doesn't seem a very easy song to sing.

Before I heard it in Camden last night I wasn't sure what the big deal was but when they played the band sounded really great it the energy of the crowd was amazing. And Ed changing the lyrics to "delight in the truth" was cool. If they played it every night it might get old but it blew me away Saturday. I'm a believer. Viva la Leash!

i've heard it two nights in a row now, and they rocked the crowd right out of their shoes. literally. on the way to DC as i type this, and i hope to hear it a third time. i disagree that it's the worst song on VS. as well, but your opinion is yours....

they also hit us with the glorified dedicated to dick cheney as well as some satan's bed, whipping, and last exit. it was awesome!

    i love this band!

yeah seriously guys Leash is fucking awesome especially in a live setting and they are probably seeing how nuts the crowds are getting.... it's like one big FUCK YEAH before they close the set up with the usuals... and im fucking happy they are doing it... it's also nice to be able to say that after 17 shows im still hearing songs i've never heard before.

I dont get people who dont like LEASH. I guarentee if they played this song in 2003 before all the signs and hype you would have been shitting yourself. But now what, is it too mainstream to like Leash or something?

About it being dated, I think leash now, not a few years a go. is more apropriate. this new album celebrates the bands ability to rock out, with a dash of maturity. so them playing leash now makes alot of sense, and I wouldnt be surprised (and hopefull) that it became a live staple. Remember the band honors and respects the fan, more then any other band I can think. But they are still not dictated by anything! (that is way they are so fucking cool). My 13 year old son, asked me what song he should put on his "CD mix" I told him to grab leash off the download. For the simply reason, that it exudes the bands live essence! The fans know what they want to hear and that varies greatly, that is what makes each show so special to those that attend. I will agree with stephenflow that I would have loved to have heard Glorified G. and what not. But I also have to remind myself that this tour is in its infancy and many many more great things are to come of it! Yes 5-25 is the best show I have seen, maybe not the best set list. but the show it self had a life of its own! so as far as leash overrated no! if you say leash is overrated then you must say hail hail is overrreated or evenflow or alive or, I got id or well ya get my point! thats just my two cents, take it or leave it... and all ya really need is love!

I was at the Boston show and I was blown away by it, I happen to think it's an amazing rocker from them, and anyone who says its the worst song on Vs. is just wrong, cause there are no bad songs on Vs. enough said...

Definitely not over rated. One of the strongest songs on the album if you ask me, plus with the sentimental value of them never playing it, I'm a little peeved that you got to hear it and I didn't!! Should have broke that shit out in Toronto!!

Well, I saw the band play Leash in 1992 and 1993, and the crowd would always go nuts during the song. Leash was never really an "anthem" at the time. It might feature near the end of a gig, and its quirky, jerky, punky character actually brought a bit of relief compared with the intensity of Alive or Black. It's a song of youthful rebellion and defiance though, and maybe the band felt a bit silly doing it after a while. Still, by public demand, here it is ... maybe Plan B is to play the song to death so poeple will ask them to retire it once and for all. :)

It's a great song. I just hope they don't burn themselves out on it before they come to Europe. Because honestly, as much as a rise this gets out of the US crowd, imagine how nuts all the Europeans will go.

I'm sorry but "Evacuation" is an awful song. As for "Who You Are", I always assumed, as others probably do, that this not being played is pretty much a Jack Irons thing, just as "WMA" is a Dave A thing.
