ISO: your iPod you never use

Anyone have an iPod classic they aren't using? My video iPod from 2007 died after a good run. Would love to have another one - used and working. Don't need headphones or charger. Let me know!

my 80 gig classic just started fudging up the other day. there were a few songs that would cut off during playback. thinking I was smart, I restored that fucker. now it won't sync. so I have an 80 gig ipod with zero on it. so I had to bring cd's and a cd player into work (I'd go insane without music at work). wonder if the apple store could do anything for me.

Ha, I'm heading in that same direction. Got my 60GB iPod video back in January 06 and it's on the fritz. Went to apple's website just a few weeks ago to find out they discontinued the classic. The iPod is my music bank for my car. It's tucked quite discretely in my center console and I never see it. An iPod touch would be pointless because I'm not going to use any apps with it. And those apps take up good drive space that could be used for more music. Ah well.

    Good luck!

I bought a 160GB ipod classic from a pawn shop about 4 years ago for $80, which at the time they were selling for about $250 new in stores. It still had all of the previous owner's music and movies on it which was a nice surprise. I still use it everyday and haven't had any problems with it the whole time I've had it. I'm sure they are cheaper today so a pawn shop might be a good place to pick one up.

  • Best of luck! I have an iPod touch that i still use. Haven't loaded anything new onto it in 5 years, but there's still a decent selection of music on it.

That is awesome. Not sure about the "cheaper today" theory, though it would be nice. Ipod Classics are THE ipod to track down these days. Since they got discontinued, the people who want that mega GB storage are out of luck. I have a 120GB that I bought in 2009 after my first 30 GB from 2005 died. I am glad it has outlived the first one I had, but I worry sick about the day it fucks up and dies. I hate the ipod touch interface for music and none of them approach the storage capacity of what I have on my classic (not anywhere close to 120 gb full, maybe 70 GB worth at this point, too many CDs and bootlegs to import them all). I so wish I would have bought an "extra" one last year just to hang on to for when mine breaks... I thought about it many times, knowing it was going to be the next thing Apple discontinued, and when the iphone 6 came out, they pulled the Classics. Not just off the website etc, but made retailers/Apple stores actually SEND BACK the unsold ones they had in stock. So fucked up. You can buy them on amazon from 3rd party sellers for oh about 3 times what they sold for before being discontinued. Ebay too. Suuuuuuuuuucks....

I am also curious to find out what you find at the pawn shop... do pawn shops "know" ebay prices and know what they have is golden? Or do they just sell it for a set rate above what they paid for it to the pawnee? If you can get an ipod classic for $250 or less DO IT for sure.

I don't go very often but when I do I just go to see if there are any good deals on something. Pawn shops are a great place to buy DVDs because they are usually only $2 or $3 each.

I go for CD's - a dollar a piece :) Most pawn places mark stuff up. I.E. Guitars TV's and other various electronics. But sometimes you can haggle.
  • Had 2. One got stolen. So the one I have is important to me. Has all PJ for the most part. Goes from house to car to boat to everywhere. Can not wait for the high capacity players to come down and more models available for the flac large files.

I can see it now. Threads of "trade my classic for your benny" Anyone? =)

I still have my classic, though I never use it. I finally invested in iTunes match, so now it doesn't matter what size my iphone is I have all 13k of my songs on it whenever I have a cell signal or wireless signal

Good luck with your search for a classic. Still bummed that Apple got rid of the ipod classic. I'll just have to get the 128GB version of the iPhone whenever this ipod classic craps out....although I hate the idea of having all of my music on my phone. I like having it separate.

Have you tried Craigslist? I was looking for a 160GB one and at least in the Dallas area it seems they can be found for $100-200 range.

the one I have now that won't work is actually refurbished. My first classic stopped working, so I went to the apple store and they exchange it with a refurbished one, and it cost me I think $80. that was before they were discontinued, though. Not sure if they still do that.

I use Rapid Repair for parts if I'm doing the service or upgrade (batteries, hard drives), and for repair if it is something beyond the scope of my abilities. They communicate well and have good turnaround time. You might want to shoot them an email.

Those still looking, try your local Targets. some of them still have inventory on them. My 80GB was being finicky right when Apple announced the discontinuation of the classic,mi searched high and low and eventually found some and was able to grab one. Still have it boxed...the 80gb started acting right, so I haven't broken into the new one yet. By far the best iPods...

I have an old 80GB that I had to replace the battery on because it stopped holding a charge. Still going. I have another 80GB I use as my car iPod that stays in the car. Love those Classics!

Target, for real? Dang, thanks for the tip. Although it's been so long I'm pretty sure Apple commanded they send them back by this point?

As an alternative, for $300, Sony has put out a Walkman that is expandable to 192 GB and gets phenomenal battery life. It also plays a bunch of file formats, including aac, mp3, flac, alac. It even plays hi-res audio. Sony NWZ-A17.

The classics I did find that were new were running about that. I wish my 6th gen didn't die. I think the moving parts got messed up from 5-6 high altitude flights to Australia in the 2000's. At least that's what I read might have been the culprit. : (
