I'm looking for an older set of JBL speakers to pair up with my Scott tube amp, since I went to a tube amp I'll never go back to solid state gear again, love the sound!!! It's amazing the something made 60 years ago sounds so great, Ive been searching for some nice speakers for quite some time now but I thought I'd mabye try here, there are many great jbl speakers so I don't have an exact model number because there are many I would go for. I have all the pj studio albums plus many more, lost dogs, sevens, vault 3 + 4, red lightning bolt, white backspacer, coke bottle ten, 10" and 7" singles, some posters and lots of other stuff I would trade. Thanks!!

  • good luck man, you won't be disappointed. i have four JBL on my twin tube amp setup, and when it's cranked up you cannot speak to the person sitting next to you. if you're looking for true vintage JBL, you can expect to drop some cash.

Very nice, how does the Mac sound?? I had a chance to buy a pair of L300 but they needed too much work, which I should've bought and restored but the work/cost $$ wasn't worth it, how do they sound?? Ive got some altec model 15s that a buddy gave me for doing some work on his house that need refoamed and that will be my upstairs setup with the Scott 299A, but I need something that will kick your balls in my man cave!!!

What kind of klipsch speakers are u running now?? I've looked at the cornwalls and khorns and if I came across the right deal I would jump on them but there hasn't been much locally around here for sale unless people want way over market value....I have a pair of altec model 15s that I should get back by the weekend but I'm still looking for a kick ass set of jbls!
Right now my Scott 340b amp has the original output tubes that came on it when it was made, they still have quite a bit of life left in them, but most of the 12ax7s are telefunken or old ge tubes and they sound great!!! But when I have this refurbished I'm gonna upgrade and get all new tubes for it, I don't know which way I'm leaning yet on what to buy for her yet tho!
I also have a Scott 299 integrated tube amp that just got refurbished, all are the original tubes on it and I would have to look to see all what is on it, a guy I work with found it at an old woman's garage sale and she bought it new and only played it for a couple years and put it in the box in her basement along with the matching 330b am/fm tuner, they are both so perfectly mint and have the cases that look brand new!! But I like them without the cases to see the tubes lit up!!!

not sure of the models. they are dual 8" floorstanding. not really "vintage" but they sound good. some people find them too "harsh" with the horn but with the right eq they sound really good to me.
Sounds like a pretty sweet tube amp. I want to go all tube if I could find the right deal. right now it's just a tube preamp for me. telefunkens are great. I am running Mullards and they are super quiet. really warm sound. I have an RCA and one other NOS brand(can't remember) but I haven't rolled them since the Mullards sound really good. must admit that I don't have the budget to get all audiophile gear but I am pretending pretty well.

Garage and Estate sales are the way to go. People have no idea what they have.

No kidding, I found a pair of Bowers and Wilkins for $15.00. They are just bookshelf speakers but they sure do mate well with my Rotel integrate amp. :)

Garage sales are great, but it's hard to find good gear, lots of people are looking for the same thing.....it's all about luck and being in the right place at the right or wrong time!!

Once you go with a tube amp you'll never go back, it's amazing what it will do to the sound of your records!!!! And if serious look at eBay or other places that you can buy a tube amp that needs repaired, that way you can get it cheap. Take it to a local shop or like my 340-b I'm gonna send it to Craig at NOS Valves and he is gonna upgrade/ refurbish/ recap/rewire the whole unit for $475, I gotta pay to ship it (which I don't wanna ship at all for damage reasons) but once that is done it will be a world class amp for a good price! And I'll be able to play it everyday and all day long with no problems!!! By the way.....both of my tube amps are integrated so I don't use a phono preamp, it's already built into the amp.....I think some guys do run a preamp when they use an integrated amp.....i would need to upgrade my speakers before adding a preamp or I probably couldn't hear the difference....but holy shit, it is the most pure, rich sound I've ever listened to and I don't even have great speakers right now!!
