I was working as a news photographer / editor at WTVR, the CBS affiliate in Richmond VA...
my news director got a job offer to be the news director at KING5's new 24 hour news operation - NorthWest Cable News.
After he had accepted the job,
he asked me if I would like join the start-up team as Chief Editor / Photographer.
I think it took me a whole minute to think about it and say HELL YES!!!
I moved out to Seattle in September of '94 & was there until March of 2000.
I never would've left if it had been up to me (ex-wife wanted to be closer to family) and I miss the Pacific NW EVERYDAY!!!

You say 'ex'...so you *could* move back....yes/no?

And I'm so glad all of you all's don't want to move here...I love it.
Oh yeah...I could definitely move back!!
I even strongly considered it after my divorce.
I have a GREAT job here in Columbus & it really is a FUN city!!
The cost of living here is much more affordable too!!
I'm happy to come back out & see old friends (YOU included) once or twice a year!!
You guys hiring? Maybe I'll move to Columbus and hang with Dave. Haha

Totally understood, cost of living definitely deters some people.
Can't wait to see you again! You *must* show me some of the great hidden foodie places!

I live a few hours north! You could bounce between Columbus and here.

Would I move to Seattle? We've talked about visiting Seattle. Regarding the Pacific Northwest-- maybe someday my park naturalist husband will look for a job out that way. I'm an artist. I could work anywhere. I'm sure that there are plenty of art galleries for me to continue to do the display staff gig. And the weather? Studies say that Seattle actually has more sun than NE Ohio. I might find the change shocking and may not have to take as many Vitamin D supplements! ;)

The weather actually isn't miserable in Seattle, the Summers are gorgeous, same with Spring and the Fall. In the winter in rains instead of snows for the most part.

100 microbreweries opening in the past 3 years in Columbus!

I'd say you'd move to wherever the local CBS affiliate is hiring! Ha!

I'm Canadian and I don't think I'm in a profession that would make it easy to get a green card. Not to mention I like living in Canada. That being said I probably live the closest a Canadian could live to Seattle without being in the United States (I think Victoria is about 130km (80ish miles) away from Seattle in a straight line. Unfortunately it takes about 5 hours to get there (by car) when you add up the driving and ferry.

Being from Vancouver, i think the weather is just fine in Seattle. :)
I would never move somewhere just because of a band or a music scene, but I wouldn't mind living in Seattle if life somehow lead me to it just because it's a nice city.... I'd way rather live in NYC though.

    Couldn't agree more...
even the rainy season in Seattle is better than all the snow & bitter cold we get here in the Mid-west!!!
AND when all of the mountains are "OUT"
it's one of the most beautiful places on EARTH.
Mt. Rainier STILL takes my breath away, every time I see it!!!
