CGC to grade concert posters

[Apologies if this has already been mentioned]

Certified Guaranty Company, the group best known for professionally grading comic books, is now accepting submissions for concert posters. I'm assuming this also applies to PJ posters, and not only Bill Graham Presents-type exclusively...

Oh dear. My friend wanted to get his comics done by them but it's prohibitively expensive to get an entire collection done.

    I like ebeans definitions

    http://expressobeans.com/public/message.php/msgConditionHelp/lblCondition
    New (N)
Just like it sounds. A brand-new, unused, unhung and unhandled copy in original condition.
    Like New (LN)
An apparently unused copy in original condition. Paper is clean and edges are sharp. Suitable for presenting as a gift.
    Very Good (VG)
A copy that has been lightly handled or hung, but remains in excellent condition. Paper is clean and edges are reasonably tight. There are no rips, holes or creases in the image area. Only uniform paper discoloring may exist based on age.
    Good (G)
A copy that has been used, but remains in clean condition. The paper is clean overall. Paper may contain some imperfections outside the image area. Image area may contain some minor imperfections.
    Fair (F)
A usable copy. Paper is intact. Paper maybe in rather poor condition but it is acceptable for display in a frame.
    Poor (P)
Moldy, badly stained, or unclean copies are not acceptable, nor are copies with large rips in image area and bad creases.

Just imagine those of us with hundreds of Pearl Jam posters in our collection? This would be a complete nightmare & a very VERY expensive thing to do.

  • So when they grade it they usually put it behind a sealed piece of plastic... What if I actually want to frame it?

Not sure who or what demographic this would actually capture? I do notice A LOT of different posters being listed on ebeans all the time. Is there a poster phenomenon going on?!?

I collect baseball memorabilia.....these grading companies (PSA, CGC, SGA) are all a bunch of bullshit as far as I'm concerned.

That's exactly what I was referring to. Posters are gonna cost more to ship too.

Tell me about it. After seeing this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-p3rvzlDjI .. these companies are not to be fully trusted. I've seen many signed PJ merch on eBay with these grading / authenticated certificates to find out they were 100% fake.

not sure about posters, but for comics it's worth it if you have a few that are worth a lot (like over a couple hundred), it increases the value of the comic a lot, because then there's no disputing condition, and it's "sealed" behind the case.
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?
