I'm a "newer" PJ fan....what is the big deal with Leash? Why do they not play it live? I saw on Letterman they even held a sign up saying it would not be played.....whats the history here?

It is a huge deal because it is off of Vs. and they havent played it since april of '94 at their concert at Boston Gardens. Not sure the reason why they havent played it since. Have heard that it is very hard on Eddy's voice.

    Hope that helps.

They were waiting to play it for me at my first show!!!
    Boston Garden 5/25/06
    Lollapalooza 8/5/07
Madison Square Garden 6/24/08 and 6/25/08
    Mansfield 6/30/08

    The answers are fatal......
  • Ya, no idea really. It's this huge anthemic song, so I can see why people wanna hear it, but as for why they don't play it that's anybody's guess. I have a hard time believing it's based on Eddie's voice because they still play Blood and Lukin, which are almost all him screaming. My theory is that Eddie has a hard time relating to the youthful, rebellious lyrics that he wrote in his younger days, so perhaps that's why it got cut, he often critiques youth as much as he holds it up in high regard.

    a) it is a song that for whatever reason has not been played since 1994

    b) Started with the "Breath" campaign of 1998, where fans repeatedly dogged the band to play Breath the whole tour until they finally gave in and played in NYC. This event opened the floodgates to all sorts or requests, with Leash being a front runner. The band seemed determined not to give in, and had successfully dodged playing the song. Of course after years of Leash-less touring, the whole thing evolved from a simple request to a full fledged fan-obsession.

    c) Notice that people are already starting No Way and Dirty Frank chants. It has more to do with the fact that Leash was considered "forbidden" for so long that got people all worked up. Clearly the band enjoyed the tease, since they've been pretty sly about not playing it for so long.
