Casey Anthony's attorney should not receive bankruptcy settlement money, trustees say
By Martin E. Comas Orlando Sentinel contact the reporter
Casey Anthony attorney Jose Baez, along with the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the Internal Revenue Service, should not receive anything from a settlement in her bankruptcy case, according to a trustee's report filed recently in federal court.
Instead, the $25,000 that was raised by the sale of Anthony's story should go toward the bankruptcy trustees, according to the report.
Anthony filed for bankruptcy protection in early 2013, listing more than $792,000 in debts.
Baez claimed that he was owed $397,431, the largest amount in the Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing.
Other creditors claiming that Anthony owed them money include the Orange County Sheriff's Office, $145,660; the IRS, $80,855; and Texas EquuSearch, the search-and-recovery group that combed Central Florida for 2-year-old Caylee in 2008.
EquuSearch says it spent $100,000 searching for Anthony's daughter, even though the mother already knew her daughter was dead.
Anthony is entitled to keep her remaining assets of $474 in cash and $610 worth of jewelry, clothing, bike and books, according to the report.
Anthony was found not guilty of murder in 2011 in her daughter's death. She has been in hiding ever since.
Jose Baez said he could not comment, because he had not read the report.
A bankruptcy judge ruled in 2013 that Anthony would not have to pay many of her creditors, but that ruling was not clear how much she would have to pay.

That's a tough call there. She was found not guilty. Bankruptcy is an odd law. You can make money but not pay back creditors. I'm not sure why she owes the sheriff's office anything. But you would think she would have to pay her lawyer from her book money.0

I think Orange County should have to pay her lawyer. They were the idiots who swung for the fences with Murder 1.No conviction, she is Scott free. They brought the charges she defended.they should pay for their own ineptitude.0

Well as I recall she knowingly lied during the search that caused the expenditure they claim._____________________________________SIGNATURE________________________________________________
