I got through a minute. Couldn't hang through another minute. I do love my phone. But I do not take selfies.

Haha - I managed through less than that. Need a synopsis, please!

So based on the subject line...I don't even love my phone (and have taken a selfie literally twice - one to my sister and the other to my husband; and oddly enough, both with our Cat #2). Not really the chatty Cathy type, and I just don't feel the need to be so...connected...all the time.

In a way, the new technology has allowed me to NOT be so connected, or at least to do so on my terms.

Phone rings or a text comes in while I'm driving or working or living my life? Fuck it, that shit's staying in my purse, and I'll check it when I check it.

I refuse to be a slave to it, as I've seen so many others do. Keep looking at the screen and walk into traffic, ya dumbass.

We will never have a zombie movie that can match the bizarre behavior of the everyday reality of this strange and nearly universal phenomena. A lady staring at her cell phone while walking in the post office parking lot very nearly walked into my vehicle this afternoon while I sat there in idle waiting for her so inch her way by. She never even looked up. People are strange, indeed!

  • I probably use my phone more talking to you fellow PJ junkies then I do actually talking on it!! Lol but no stupid Candy Crush or other crap. I have a Mah Jhong app and a Cribbage app downloaded.. And am looking for a good Solitaire one, but that's it.. It's a tool.. Not a respirator!!! I swear people think if their phones as a life line.. I look at it like what it is.. A minor necessity. But I do love my phone..
  • It really is a good practice to just leave your cell phone home once in awhile when you go out. I do this a few times a month. It helps me maintain a perspective of how rude we can all be with these fucking things.

^^^ The worst. Nothing like trying to capture a moment and realizing afterwards you completely missed the moment while there.

I will say it is kinda awesome to think that I can have my entire music collection at my fingertips in seconds.I could have only dreamed about such a item as a kid.So not all bad.

You can have that with an iPod. No phone necessary.

Why have both? Most of us have cell phones anyway. Why carry an iPod along with that?
  • I have both, I have no need for a stupid smart phone taking over my life. No need for a data plan because there is no need to be on the internet anywhere other than my laptop. I don't have to live connected to the internet 24/7 and I save big bucks doing it.

My parents had one of those. The cost of a call per minute was astronomical.

BSL,we relay very heavily on our smart phones with our buisness. It is such a valuable tool for on demand data, and transferring info from office to field. Our productivity has gone thru the roof in the last 7-8 years and we now can work much smarter and efficient. So we save time and money and aggravation.Progress is something to be embraced,as long as we don't loose site of the fact that certain face to face interactions are still crucial to our personal and social development.

You would actually save more by ditching the laptop and broadband and just using a smartphone for everything. That's what we did, it took some getting used to but we adjusted.

  • You guys can keep claiming that your smartphones are better than my simple dumb phone. It doesn't bother me one bit. I am not tied to my electronics… but you are!! Now that's living. See 1st post and video.

I didn't say it was better, just cheaper. It is a mistake to think that everyone who has a smartphone is some valleygirl phone addict.

Why do you have a laptop and internet at all if you are so adamant about being free of electronics?

BSL,don't be so closed minded.Progress when used to our benefit is a good thing.Im sure some folks thought horses were better then cars,or candles better then electric light,or toilets were better separated from the house, who needs plumbing anyway?
Grab your laptop,iPod,plain phone,VCR,and Cassette player and enjoy the simple life.

Nothing is cheaper than my lovely 2008 MacBook still going strong and having paid for it 7 years ago. I don't pay for internet, my neighbor does. :hang_loose:
